You agreed to it. Ride it out and think harder next time. If he was not working on it frequently my answer would different.

I've had people ask about garage space and I tell them as soon as something becomes available... I will let them know.

Some of the places I manage have detached garages...

As soon as someone hears rent... that's the end of it.

No offensive, but why are you ***** footing around. Tell him to get it out today or you will period...If he is not going to respect your position then maybe its time to teach him some respect.........my .02.

I didn't realize he was out there working on it every day. Sounds like he maybe in over his head.. Both money wise and knowledge wise. Since he really is trying I'd wait it out, and maybe even watch and offer advice.
But at some point I'd being about monetary compensation.

He has worked on it everyday when parts have been available. Sometimes parts take a week or more to turn around. He will get here at five pm and work till midnight or later. I place no fault there. That is why I have been so patient.

BobRip,
Your conclusion on this topic has enlightened me to be a tiny bit better of a person. As I refer back (the above quoted post) to your post and re-read it several times (after my initial hard stance as a conservative and structured individual) I was reminded by your statement of being patient, of how God expects people to behave. I did not exhibit that behavior as I am commanded. Realizing that, I further commended you on you being 'ahead of the game' and was subconsciously excusing myself for not serving, as I should. This morning while reading a Bible study lesson, the instructions were to read several different verses and one of those was in 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28, where in that scripture lies the command from God to be patient with others (5:14) among many other commands but that particular command stood out like a sore thumb. As I sat, read, and thought, I recalled this thread and was still bothered by the bad example of how I may have misrepresented of what are my expectations through my role as a Christian. What a humbling encounter with my failure, as slight or seemingly insignificant as it may be, that you were a positive influence on me in this small yet important (to me) manner of conduct and example. Your action of all of the choices or opinions here to be patient is expected precisely of all of us, so I conclude this small testimony of humble and gracious learning by saying thank you for helping me see a reassuring way to be kind, regardless of the circumstances. The Sabbath is a better day already. I am certain that the person that is using the garage will be thankful for your patience and as others here have so encouragingly pointed out, you may need the same or similar favor returned someday. Paying it forward now is an investment well worth what is commanded of us by God. As I can only respect everyone's opinion, not passing judgement on any one of them on this matter, I stand humbly schooled and thankful by your good attitude and action.

I tell them "My shop is a mess and will need a large amount of cleaning before the vehicle will fit."

I've never had an offer yet to clean my shop yet.:D
:(

I will be using that one, lol.

Actually I did use that one on my daughter, she wanted me to finish the last corner of the basement for a bedroom, I said sure if you give me a hand. One month later after asking her to clean the floor so we could get started I took my tools back to the farm. I think treating others as we would like to be treated can go both ways, no?

Bob, good stuff, we just try, eh?

One of the worst cases of "Friend Car Repair Abuse" I encountered was a former friend from church that just wanted to use the heated bay......

What he neglected to say was that he also needed the oxy/acet torch, hyd press, welder, air tools, floor jacks, tubing flare/bender equip, parts washer......

"Oh, by the way, can you show me how to....(fill in the blanks)........"

I don't mind helping out a friend but his problem shouldn't become mine, I have enough of my own with him never helping out....

Bob looks like you've learned a hard lesson.. And I believe you're old enough to know better. :D I'd be royal pain in the backside and call everyday asking when he is going to get the car done. And give him a dead line.. Not out of there by then you'll have it towed. He will have choice of where it gets towed, but it will get towed.
Like you I'm a nice guy and hate when I get taken advantage of.

Good Mornin Bob,
I have to agree with Wedge on this one !

Almost two years ago I built a 28' by 42' barn on my property. It has two bays, and at the other end is a partioned shop. Im only presently using part of one bay to store my Massey. This time of year Im only at the property a few days a month. One of my neighbors contacted me and asked if they could just store a pickup truck in the vacant bay. I thought about it and decided that it was probablly a bad idea, and I might have trouble getting rid of this vehicle come spring....

After reading your thread, Ive decided I made the right choice... ;)

I think your a really good guy trying to help someone out, but have gotten caught up in a situation that isnt really changing fast enough !

Hopefully you will have your space soon enough, and Im sure you will think twice the next time something like ths happens again ! :)

Money wise he is probably OK but he is having to learn a lot. This is good in a way. Every engineer needs to turn wrenches.

How much should I charge?
