Tractor
L4200GST w/ LA680 & BX2200D w/ LA211
I've decided that I really want (talking to wife mode: NEED) a cab tractor, but don't know what/where to look.

I think the B3000HST is the only 'B' model with a factory qab. That tractor w/ cab and with TLB options books at ~38k (per website). I'm assuming I can get an OTD price somewhere near 85% of book. Does that sound reasonable?

I think that a large 'B' is big enough, but I'm not sure. I'm accustomed to a 40+HP machine, but the only horsepower-intensive tasks I do regularly is running a snowblower - HST should compensate for lack of power, I think, on those 'heavy' days.

I currently have an open-cab L4200GST TLB - I'd really like another similar sized machine, but I think anything bigger than the B3000 would quickly become cost-prohibitive. Or would it? Any insight on options, models, or avenues?

I still can't figure out which models are cab-able.

thanks - JayC

I think you have to go to the Grand L's for a factory cab;other than the B3000
Price a L3540/L3940 with cab.the back -hoe is the expensive part .

Which ever one you get you'll wonder why you waited so long.....CABS are GREAT. After 2 open seat models I finally got into a CAB and it is NICE. You might have a problem getting the wife out of it if she once gets inside and out of the weather......Heaven! I know its only a tractor.

I think the toughest thing to do is to decrease in power. I have a 85 HP JD 5410 that I use on the farm and got a 30HP 3120 a couple years ago because I got a another place up north about two hours away so I "needed" another tractor. Yes the 3120 is a good tractor but the difference between them is night and day. Things that the 3120 struggles with is done easily with the 5410.

Not only are you decreasing size and power, but you'll also not be getting as nice of a cab because your getting a smaller cab. IMO, I'd go with a comparable Grand L even though the increased cost. Go compare though, if you don't need that much tractor anymore it could very well be a cost saver.

When i was looking at the Kubotas i looked at both models, and the Grand L was by far the better unit of the 2, especially if your adding the weight of the cab and the backhoe. Personally i dont like the cabed units with a backhoe due to having to hop out of the seat and climb into the tractor to move along the trench line. But ive gotten so spoiled using mini excavators and commercial TLB units like the Cat 426 that im too lazy to hop between seats.

Nothing against the B3000, but my preference is the Grand L or equivalent in John Deere, Kioti, Massey etc.

What is the difference in cost? I would think I can get into a B3000HST cab (w/o backhoe) for somewhere in the 26k range. I'd absolutely prefer a Grand L, but last time I looked at pricing for them, I almost passed out.

I would also consider a Kioti/Bobcat, but can't find any comparative pricing info on them. I don't like Massey tractors (for no particular reason), and assume that JD are too expensive.

I had an epiphany - I'm guessing I can get somewhere around $12.5k in trade for my L4200 TLB. Considering I'd be spending more than half of that for a backhoe, keeping the L4200 (and I am emotionally attached) would only cost me $5-6k. So, I'd still have a backhoe (and a way better and bigger one) and the L4200 would essentially cost me only that $5-6k. Boy, is that a bargain or what? Either way, I'm out of budget.

In your shoes, I'd get the b3000 cab with the snow blower fel and all the goodies you require and keep the 4200. Remember though, if you only get the b3000 then you will have to get whatever 3 pt attachments again because your current will be much too large and that will be a hefty expense itself.

I just went down that road this past spring. Ended up going from a B7800 to GL3540 HSTCC. I considered a B3000 cab but went larger, oddly, due to value. The 3540 was less than $4000 more but is way more than $4000 more tractor.

Look into a Kioti DK35 or DK40. Very competively priced for the most part agaist Kubota and more tractor in most cases and standard features that are options on Kub.. Also, Kioti has one of the nicest cabs.

Kioti does make an excellent tractor as well. Built heavier than most other tractors, which is a good thing. Kioti (or Bobcat) would be a good idea to look into:thumbsup:

What amazes me is most dealers only charge about 6-7 grand extra for a cab unit (over the price of their respective open station) when i was shopping last year. You sure get alot of stuff for $7,000.

was way worth it

There is a significant price difference, but after looking at the B Series, I was willing to pay the difference. I lucked out and found a really nice, used L5030 HSTC before ordering a L4240.

It worked out great as our Case CX80 went toes up about 18 months later and we had to buy an M8540, so our budget was shot to heck for a looong time.:(

Get in the cab of a Grand L kubota and check out the operation of the transmission and you will see why they are years in advance of other makes. That is why many makes are cheaper and you can't even buy the options to make them equal!

Trenching with a backhoe with a cab tractor is not easy!

Ill agree that trenching with a cab tractor isnt easy. My Kubota dealer even told me he doesnt recommend it to any of his customers, but will sell it that way if requested.

Im not so sure about the statement about years in advanced though. I tested JD, TYM, Kioti and Kioti and they all seemed similar if not near identical... except for a few minor things

Kioti makes a dealer installed cab for their smaller tractors as well (see below), but I think you may want to look at a larger Kioti as the price savings on them is significant for a tractor just as good as the Kubota, for less.
KIOTI - run ahead of the pack!

I would consider a Kioti - do they (or Bobcat) have any online pricing tools like the Kubota site has?

na, they do have an online contact form that you tell what you want, and they have the local dealers contact you. Thats how i got my DK45.

They don't, which is interesting because I think if they had one and people saw how much cheaper they were they would be a lot more likely to walk in a dealer.

Wow I can't wait to get to the farm show!!!!! I'm not aware of those makes introducing Anti-stall or auto throttle on there tractors! I haven't seen that they have added anything close to a hi-low to there tractors either not counting being able to adjust the sensitivity of the hydro from from the drivers seat!!!!

I know that every tractor company out there is advancing fast but I didn't realize how fast!
