They don't, which is interesting because I think if they had one and people saw how much cheaper they were they would be a lot more likely to walk in a dealer.

FYI - Bobcat does have a tractor builder/pricer. They are giving away free loaders, and packages appear to be about the cost of a loader cheaper than an equivalent Kubota. So, without incentives, they seem roughly comparable in price.

Yup... i sure remember the difficulties of finding the perfect speed. I liked the HST for the range of motion, but like the gear for pasture work better.

Simpler, reacts faster and is much harder to stall, even a Kubota with the HST+ is easier to stall than a gear. Also have a lot better control of the RPM's with the foot pedal, so when you need more power, push the pedal. Much faster for road and open field travel.

also, working in a field is easier with gear

but about 80-90% of the studf i do, HST was a better choice

Sadly, ours is just beyond the legal limit at four miles and six miles.

I really NEED to get my hands on a copy of this book so I will finally have proof I NEED another tractor!

Kioti makes a dealer installed cab for their smaller tractors as well (see below), but I think you may want to look at a larger Kioti as the price savings on them is significant for a tractor just as good as the Kubota, for less.

I think kioti makes decent tractors but saying they are the same quality as kubota across the board is a stretch. I dont think kioti tractors have kubota diesels under the hood ?

There are plenty of Kioti owners that would like to disagree. I don't see anywhere that Kubota is so much more of a tractor that to say they aren't the same quality, isn't true. What does a Kubota diesel have to do with them being much more spectacular. Are you saying that my GMC isn't as good as a Dodge because it has a Duramax and not a Cummins. C'mon man, they both make excellent tractors, to say that Kioti isn't on the same level of quality as Kubota is false. Sure Kioti doesn't have the same dealer network, and may not have a couple features like the HST+, but that's nothing to do with quality. Kioti and Kubota are equal on quality. I don't see to many people killing themselves over purchasing either of those tractors, as they are both excellent machines...

John Deere has been around 175 years... doesn't mean they're better... does it? I'm not trying to argue with you, but all of the top manufacturers are nearly even on quality. There's some things some do better than others, and that's where you buy the best tractor for you.

Maybe.maybe not. hard to really say.

But i would say CAT is the industry leader in construction equipment...and JD for farm equipment when viewing the worlds markets.

I would agree that all the big manufacturers build decent tractors, i guess we all are entitled to our own opinions when it comes to quality. I think its a disgrace that cat does not build their own cuts! When best & holt stopped suing each other and decided to form cat, it was the small ag (track) tractor that put them on the map.

What amazes me is most dealers only charge about 6-7 grand extra for a cab unit (over the price of their respective open station) when i was shopping last year. You sure get alot of stuff for $7,000.

I disagree. I think $7k is highway robbery - worth $1500 at best, realistically - it's just a few steel bars, some plastic, and some glass. I can almost buy a whole car for $7k.

1. curved glass, twin doors, windows, etc
2. heavy steel cage and supports
3. Heating and air conditioning systems
4. sound systems
5. Insulation/sound deddining.
6. windshield wipers and washers
7. four 55 watt halogen lights
8. separate electrical system
9. Larger alternator
and the list goes on

$7,000 is cheap. and i would like to see a $7,000 new car....

I've toyed with the cab idea, and at my wife's urging, (bless her sweet pea-pickin' heart), I think the times I love it will far outweigh the times I'd prefer an open station.

Lefty7, welcome to the forum. I can't tell you why Kubota does not offer other trans options with a cab but the online builder is correct. Only HST tranny in their cab tractors. I will say that unless you are doing ground engaging work that where the slight loss in hp is an issue the HST is a very user friendly reliable transmission.

Only guessing, but with the popularity of the HST, I doubt they would sell enough geared units to pay for the effort and I doubt many dealers would want one taking up space on their lot waiting for just the right buyer.

MarkV, Thank you for the welcome and for your comment. Been kicking the tranny choice around and I noticed that aspect of their builder. Realistically, the unit will spend most of its work time on turf, rough turf, mowed hayfields, field and creek edges, the orchard, etc., and (for the time being) will only be yanking on open soil to till a large garden. But before I commit myself, I find myself thinking about what else I may want to use it for, and starting considering the gear version, so I appreciate your comments about the HST.

The two attachments I need right out of the gate are the loader and rototiller.
I'd love a backhoe with hydraulic thumb, but that will have to wait. (Also need to determine how to configure the tractor NOW to accept backhoe w/thumb at a later date.) Not planning on much trenching, but boy, I sure would like to have that big hand! Some days, my real ones are shot.

Hi TripleR. I was wondering why it would matter, based on the differences of the transmissions, but couldn't figure that out - so your speculation makes the most sense. And I understand the dealer's side of it, if that is the case. But if somebody wanted to order one that way, I don't understand why they couldn't (or wouldn't) build it, be it a real one or the virtual one on their site.

I'm going to have more questions, for sure, and I hope you guys will be around. But some questions may have already been asked and answered, so I need to do some thread reading here.
