The "super" products are more expensive to produce, likely, given their higher retail prices.

They have more refined or superior additives one supposes. For sure, a quick comparison shows higher flash points (good in hot weather) and better cold weather flow.

Not unlike a straight 20w oil versus a 5w-20 oil. Both work, but I'll bet you pay more for the 5w-20 multi viscosity oil.

In spite of the bias of certain southern dealerships, and despite the silly packaging Kubota did with the SUDT by putting snow flakes on the bottle reinforcing this silliness, the SUDT is merely a low viscosity, multi-viscosity fluid. John Deere and many, many others offer various grades of tractor fluid.

But, if you're a dealer in the south, why bother with having to stock it and fuss with it. Would your customers pay more, as they must for the "super"? Doubtful. Or at least, not enough of them.

Now, back to our regular programing, as they say.

Super UDT is better for the cold the UDT as it it is a little thinner and is better with wet clutches. Super 2 takes it farther yet on both of the above as well as more protection from corrosion caused from condensation.

When tractors are used for snow removal at short bursts (not running all day) they can have more moisture problems. Kubota designs there tractors to be able to work all day and with the changes in their market to less use they have found additives to overcome the problems do to the lack of running them long enough to count on evaportaion.

I live up in the north (Central Alberta) and I can't find sudt or sudt2 anywhere and all the dealers around here haven't even heard of it :(

Dealers don't carry it down here, but you can order it. I have used both and found no difference in performance or noise and have also used other brands.

Others will disagree vehemently; oil threads seem to get heated at times.

That is because Kubota contracts with a totally different oil company in Canada. I understand that there is ONLY a super type product available in Canada. Again, that makes life simpler. Who has excess shelf and storage space?

Again, this is a simple matter of storage and shelf space. Most folks in business would love not to have to stock and sell a bunch of different stuff with minutia of differences between them.

My wife's Honda was one of the last to print 5w-30 oil on the engine oil cap. The next year, they are stamped with, what would soon become popular, 5w-20.

There's no way that they changed the engine mid stream. It's just that the 5w-20 oil came of age, maybe, maybe provided a 1/100 more mpg? Who knows or cares. I'm with TripleR. Oil debates are absurd.

Unless you go wacko, and very far afield, oil is oil. It's wet. It does it's job. Just as folks use 5w-30 in their cars without any noticeable difference, this shouldn't be a debate about one versus the other. Is there a difference? Yes. But......Will the world stop spinning one way or the other? Nope.

I live too dang far north not to use both SUDT in my tractor and 5w-20 in my wife's engine for -10 start ups.

My dealer and everyone else I talked to only sells and heard of regular udt (or "Premium UDT" as it's labeled) not even the super. Is there a product number for sudt2 that I could go to my dealer and order cause they are really good at that.

Half the time they don't know things exist until I hear about it on these forums and walk in there asking for it. They say no such item exists and I give them a part number and they are amazed that it does exist.

When they get requests now that they haven't heard of they call me to search and see if it exists and has a part number, lol.
