When I upgraded to a Airdog 150, I pulled the bed off instead of dropping the tank. Was quite surprised how easy it was.

I'll have to agree with pulling the bed. I had to drop the tank on my '96 dually, to replace the brake line that runs up behind the tank. Those connections are a PIA to unhook. At least were for me, as I wasn't sure how they worked, or a good view to figure it out. Finally got it, but not after giving some engineer somewhere, a piece of my mind.

Backhoe was in 3 pieces in the shop, under the beam, or I would have pulled it..!!

I'm not whiz on diesel engines, but how come Deere can build auto-bleeding engines and the truck manufacturers can't?
Or, do the new ones have a self bleeding feature?

Roy, I have a Dodge diesel, and its pretty much auto bleeding.

Willl, nice photos. Do you have an idea how much that bed weighs? Is it something 4 people could pick up and lift off? Is there just a few bolts that hold it on? It looks like once the bed is off, its an easy job.

I always reset the trip meter at the pump, about 400 miles and I'm ready for fuel. It'll go farther but who wants to walk home?

I ALWAYS drive by the trip meter. I reset on every fill up. Note the mileage, figure out the mpg and write it down in a log book. I have done this for every car and truck I have owned. My Ford has what I call the MPG LieOMeter that is always at least 1-2mpg OVER reality. Oddly it is pretty close to what the number of miles left before running out of fuel.

The fuel is low light is odd. It used to pop on at when there was about 100 miles of fuel was left in the truck. Now it lights up at 120ish. This time of year I try to fill up at 640 miles. Summer is about 670. I can push it to 670 and 700 but I try not too.

Later,
Dan

Great pics!
That Ram looks to be in very good shape. That'll be a 500k mile truck for sure!

If it has a P7100 with a mechanical fuel pump, after putting in fuel you just crack a couple of lines to the fuel nozzles and pump the manual part of the pump, when you get fuel to the nozzles and the system pumped up start it. If it has an electric pump the fuel will bleed right threw the pump on all but 2 or 3 nozzles.
If you have a VP44 you open a couple of lines and bump the starter to get the pump to go on and when you get fuel tighten and start it. As was stated doing it on a VP44 costs about $1,000 or more they f up easy when everything is prefect.
If it is a common rail you bleed it at the pump inlet.
You will not be killed with spraying fuel, the fuel is diverted threw the threads, and you are bleeding the priming pressure not injection pressure. If you have a nozzle out and put you fingers over the tip it could impregnate your skin.
If you have a unit without a gauge carry a jug and at the first sign stop and add it.

Dont know about GM or FOrd, but the new Cats and the Dodge/Cummins will auto bleed. The GM and Ford probably does..
