2360 snowblower electric chute deflector

irvingj, I hate it when the blower gets clogged with ice. Often very late at night I get lazy and put the tractor in the garage without cleaning off the snow sometimes even with the chute clogged with slush. Next time I use it it's a block of ice and a great way to ensure those old shear pins get replaced. I have a 240v and kerosene heater which cleans things out quickly when need be.

Got home from school? I always presumed you were older than that.:)

Yep. I hang around with 6th, 7th, & mostly 8th graders during the day.... keeps me young! Spend my time trying to beat math into their little heads....:p

(As I tell the kids: "One of these days, I'll act my age.....NAHHHH!")

Well I got my motor cleaned up with WD40 and 320 grit paper, put the parts on the wood stove to dry out, reassembled and ran a small bead of clear silicone around the outside of the gasket---It works!!
Yes the chute will freeze up with all the snow build up, I just take a hammer and break the ice off till the chute is free, then motor will turn it as designed.
I thought my water problem was from my GC2300 old style front exaust blowing directly on the chute and motor, but you folks with the newer style side pipe seem to have the same problem.

Just to report back about the Bercomac Joystick blower controls I installed today to replace the Massey toggles mounted on the instrument panel. I went looking for a different setup due to it being necessary for me to operate the chute and deflector very often in the course of snowblowing and I never really warm up to the Massey controls as it took two hands to operate while hunched forward somewhat.

The Bercomac connectors are a direct fit for the massey motor connection therefore there's no cutting and splicing required which was a pleasant surprise. Unlike the Massey wiring being protected with a plastic corrugated wire loom the Bercomac wires outside covering appears to be rubber and integral to cable itself. The wire connections (apart from the motor connections) are designed to be water resistant if not water proof with rubber boots which is a nice touch. The joystick mounted control box is solid and wont' be falling apart any time soon. Overall I'm very impressed with the Joystick kit, the joystick itself is an 8 position unit allowing both chute and rotation to operate simultaneously in any direction and the installation was a breeze (removing my old wiring system took more time than the new install due to accessing the toggles switch in behind the instrument panel).

I mounted the joystick to the right side of the cab using a square U-bolt fastened to the cab frame by first covering the U-bolt with heat shrink for a little extra grip. Anyways so far this kit is impressive and an excellent substitute for the Massey kit for those looking for this type of one-handed control. Below is a few pictures of the installed kit.

Nice work, Jaylegger! Now I want to get rid of my two switches and put in a joystick!

Thanks,

Unfortunately the way March is going weather wise it doesn't look like I'll have an opportunity to field test it until next year.

So I pulled my motor off today... no water at all inside! The seal seemed to be intact, and the armature, brushes and bearing surfaces all looked very clean.

Apparently, the ice was in fact forming in the bushing areas; guess I got lucky!

My motor also looks like it might be a tad different- both brushes were "springed."

Froze to death taking it off & putting it back on, but when it was off I did notice that the spring-shaped driver was quite hard to turn manually. Added some grease to the armature bearings & put it back together, seems to work OK now.
Hi
I took my motor apart, no water, just pieces of magnet that has broken. I had lot of trouble getting back together. Do you know of step by method of correct assembly. Massey wants $200 and 4-6 week delivery for a new one. Thanks

"Do you know of step by method of correct assembly. "

No, sorry I don't, but it's "just" an electric motor... as others have posted, it's very similar to a window-crank motor; perhaps a maker of those might have some info.

If your magnet has broken --and this would be inside the lower metal casing?-- it sounds like you might be well off to replace it, sorry to say. Not sure if you can glue magnet pieces back together and duplicate the original magnetic field... but maybe. (I'd try it, but then I'll try almost anything once!)

On another note, I had my chute deflector linear actuator freeze up the other day --we've had a LOT of slushy stuff this year-- so I guess I join the club of folks who've had that one stick, too. Sorry, I didn't think to take some pics!:confused2:

When I brought it inside and took it apart, there was some water in the gearbox, and very little, if any, grease. Dried it off, loaded it up with grease, and we're back in business. I'm hoping the grease-filled gearbox will keep the water out....

Man I love that setup-cab and snowblower :)

Thanks, all I need is a better heating method since one of two my small 12v auto heaters went out a month ago. After being introduced to the effectiveness of seat heaters in hockey rinks I think I'll just add a heated seat cushion and keep just one electrical auto type heater for defrost purposes if needed.
