Now if I could have found the Mecgars at that price, I'd have given them a try, but no such luck. I did find some of them a little cheaper than factory, but since I wanted two different sizes . . . oh, well, I just ordered a couple direct from Sig and paid their high prices.:laughing:

This is what will help pay for more guns in more calibers and give you more reasons to go to the range to work up loads. :thumbsup:

Then on to local practical pistol matches to stay honed and sharp and of course see other cool guns to buy.

Oh and after just reading another post learn that to most wifes one gun is the same as another dont talk about the ones you buy for yourself buy some for her and then borrow them.

Just stay away from Kimber or your savings will never be the same.

fwtw I like Metalform mags better than Mecgars just me maybe but I thought the Mecgars were not as good from my experience anyway whether they make Sig mags I cant say. ymmv

My Action Pistol gun in 38 Super got them instead of Colts which Metalforms are cheaper than Colt for sure in 1911 style and have givin me zero problems. I have 16 for the Super and my .45 to make it thru 2 complete course of fire w/o going back to the truck to load mags.

Interesting, it has to be the same company I worked at for a month or so when I was 18 years old, in New Britain, CT. They made all the mags for colt. I had a box of them in that short time and do remember the 38's I've still got some silver plated 45's. I didn't know they sold under their own name.

I live in the "gun belt" right between New Haven CT and Springfield Mass.
Stag arms, which started as a sub for colt, is just about next door to Metalform and there are many other sub contractor shops making parts and mags. Not hard to find mags and other parts around here for "fell off a truck" prices. Especially the m-16 bananas.

I'm pretty partial to any wheel gun by Smith & Wesson. The 4 inch 686 (6 shot or 7 shot) is a fine revolver. The 2 1/2 inch and 6 inch versions of the 686 are also excellent 6 shooters. Can't go wrong with a Smith!

I have suffered from gun addiction for most of my adult life. :ashamed: No known cure, and it keeps getting more expensive to feed.

A few words about hiding it from the wife;

1) Never admit to buying another gun, just buy it and mix it in with the others and they never know.

2) Make positive statements like...I sure wish I had bought more guns in the past since they are "like money in the bank" and keep going up.

3) As mentioned above..."better to ask forgiveness than ask for permission. :thumbsup:

I always have been and still am partial to the Smith & Wesson revolvers. Actually there was no sensible reason for me to buy the Sig, excelpt for a little fun target shooting and for 9 mm ammo that's cheaper than .38 spl. I use the Sig for an annual qualifying round because then it's legal to carry either, but I actually carry the Chief Special when I carry a gun. Both my model 15-2 and my model 36 were new in 1964. Neither has required any repairs beyond cleaning and lubricating, although I did allow our range people to re-blue the 15-2 (belonged to the city at the time) when it was only about 20 years old. I'd be very surprised if a semi-auto can last that long with no repairs.

They can and do last a long time also, Recoil springs will need to be changed as they tend to "shorten" if shot a lot. But that is cheap and easy for anyone to do. The only "wear them out" problems I have seen is in IPSC/USPSA service where the high performance guns are run up to maximum power factors with the smaller cartridges like 38 super or 9mm that is loaded to make major (165 power factor) is where problems can come in slide cracking, and excess barrel wear. I have seen plenty of .45 auto's shot to 50 to 75 thousand rounds without any problems. (except recoil springs of course) and maybe an extractor would give up once in a while. Of course .45 auto is low pressure like a 38 special. Almost any gun if given reasonable care (and not overcleaned) will outlast the average shooter's lifetime at least twice over.

You may very well be right, James. So far my Sig has not malfunctioned at all, but Sig keeps sending e-mails wanting me to send it it for various and sundry tuning or servicing. In fact, they say it should be "serviced" every year or 5000 rounds, whichever comes first. Now I probably only average about one box of 50 rounds a month. The gun is 29 months old so it's not even close to 5000 rounds. I do clean and lubricate it every time I shoot it, so we'll see someday.
