I ordered a 13 RD magazine and a 17 RD magazine directly from Sig. They arrived last night. The 17 RD magazine is very nice, clearly labelled "Sig Sauer" on one side, but in tiny print (I had to use a magnifying glass:laughing:) it also says "MEC-GAR MADE IN ITALY".

Ha that is funny!. I still have those 4 17 rounders The have been thrown around a lot in competition, but still work fine. Wish I had bought a lot more of them.

Bird, is that 17 round mag the 2 extra for a Sig 226? I just watched a review where the guy said it is very difficult to get that last round in there.
Why the 13 round? do you have a compact sig?

I'm seriously considering a Sig just so I can say I own one
When I look at them at the gun shop, they do look very well made, the fit and finish is near perfect. But it's like an interior decorating shop, all the different colors and finishes for them.

I like the controls on the Sig, and I especially like the flush fit of the bottom of the mag, compared to Glock's that stick out quite a bit, which probably does have something to do with their higher capacity.

I don't like the fact that the Sig weighs a full 1/2 pound more than the comparable Glock, with 2 less round capacity, and no more reliable.

I never shot one so it's hard to tell if I would really like the SA again, like I said I do like the controls, with the decocker to put it in DA for safely handling/ carrying.

JB

JB4310, Sig makes a lot of variants with my preference being the "Classic" 220, 226, 229 etc., didn't really care for the 239 and sold it to my son.

As mentioned previously, you can get the DA/SA or DAO with the Kellerman trigger.

We had to carry Glocks, but several of us had the Sig 229 for fun guns.

Well, I feel as if I must break into this thread as my daughter just turned 16 last Saturday. Yep...my Glock 23 has never been cleaner!

You are a lucky guy, neither my wife or daughter will clean a gun; love to shoot them, but not clean them.

Course I don't do the dishes much or cook, so it's not a bad arrangement.

That is from the Americanization (what I think of at times as bastardization) of the Sig Sauer brand name. Sig use to have as many handguns (in the American market) as you had on one hand, and only in one color, black. But the American market wants more, they want variety. The American company is more than happy to oblige.

That said, even the newer pistols from Sig (US) aren't that bad, their US rifles however are generally overpriced living off their European history of quality, and they now have questionable quality control with an engineering staff from God knows where from. I laughed when I saw their new 556R out in 7.62x39 that would take AK mags but what the lower was made from. I'm an idiot and I could figure out what their problem was going to be with that set up taking AK mags. That said, Sig took the corrective measures needed after the fact, just couldn't figure out how they put themselves there to begin with.

I owned a 556 patrol rifle and it was a good gun (bought it because it had a huge price drop, wonder why lol). Absolute bugger to co witness the irons though.

I also understand how much REAL swiss parts would cost when it comes to their rifles. I do laugh when I read "swiss style" in their ads.

Years ago when both my wife and I both shot competitive pistol, I tried a couple of time to get her to clean the guns. "Look honey it is kind of fun to take them apart and clean them up".. "No I think I will go check on X Y Z etc" She never did fall for it.:)

That's why you need a Glock...easy takedown and throw the lower in the dishwasher...

JB, I have a Sig P229DAK instead of the 226. The 229 came originally with three 13 RD magazines. Now if I tell you why I ordered the others, you'll think I'm nuts, and you'll probably be right. But since some already think that . . .

If I'd bought the P226 it would have come with 15 RD magazines, but you see the qualifying shooting I do is all in the wrong numbers for 13 RD magazines:

1. 5 rounds from the 25 yard line in 15 seconds; one target turn
2. 5 rounds from the 15 yard line in 10 seconds; one target turn
3. 15 rounds from the 7 yard line; three target turns of 8 seconds each
4. 10 rounds from the 3 yard line; two target turns of 8 seconds each (one handed, first strong hand, then weak hand)
5. 15 rounds from the 7 yard line in 25 seconds; one target turn; reload twice; i.e. only 5 rounds per magazine allowed.

Now that last 15 rounds, retirees are allowed to use 7 and 8 rounds per magazine so they only have to reload once instead of twice. At each stage, we start with a holstered weapon until the target turns (or starts to turn). Now between stages, they'll allow us time to reload magazines. But in each stage, it's your own problem. And I never like to have anyone waiting on me. In stage #3, I have to change magazines since I don't have 15 rounds in one magazine at this time. But with a 17 RD magazine, loaded with 15, I'll save my self some time next time.

Foolish? Of course. Isn't most of what we spend one firearms and accessories foolish?

To change the topic a little bit . . . in spite of growing up in a house with always loaded handguns, our just turned 46 year old daughter had never shot one and last month told me she'd like to try that. So today, I took her to the indoor range at Bass Pro and let her shoot the 9 mm Sig, the K model S&W .38 and the Chief special S&W .38. And would you believe she liked the little Chief best?

I'm really just learning about sig, so I don't know their history or models.

I see their Poly guns are very competitively priced, actually pretty cheap compared to the other well Known all Poly gun company. Around $350.00 !! I was surprised. Don't know how they have been reviewed, but I doubt Sig would put out anything that would hurt their reputation.

But if I do get a Sig, it will be all metal.

Oh no, it makes perfect sense :confused2: :)

That's interesting about your daughter just now starting to shoot a hand gun,
not unusual for women to not be interested in firearms though. Do you think she would get her own or get a carry permit?

If she gets the permit, you two will have to flip a coin to see who gets to carry the snubby that day :D
