Terra-Dome Earth Shelter Build

Sucks that you are so paranoid and removed all the thread pictures. Same for your driveway installation thread.

I was excited when I read the thread titles, as I'm about go through the same process of driveway installation and earth sheltered home build. Now your threads are of little help to anyone, since we can't see what anyone was talking about. Pretty selfish to come on here, absorb all this info and help from other people, then remove all the context so that no one else can benefit in the future.

So, yeah, sorry to hate on you, but this really sucks.

Sam, I think it is fair to say something life changing is going to take place for all of us in the US and maybe the World..I think you have positioned yourself and family in a very responsible way to be able to survive whatever may befall us...I too have taken precautions to take care of me and mine...All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst....to do less would be irresponsible...

Actually We were experiencing problems with others using my pictures on their commercial website making false claims, we also figured everyone had seen the pictures by now. My thread reached many people I am sorry you were just to late.

Sam,

I have not commented on this string, but have avidely followed it. I am glad you are back!

Please keep up on any issues with this style of construction. You seem to have a discerning eye, and understand what sort of issues are important for construction. The hard part of this sort of pathfinder project is learning from mistakes, and since most only build a house once, we have to learn from others.

Thanks for the thread, and congratulations on getting the house finished.

To the others who feel the urge to provide social and philosophical commentary, please stay out of it. Clearly, Sam neither needs to be defended, nor educated, and it would be a sad loss to our society(particularly me) to not have followup on this project.

Best Regards
Chris

Do you know what roof loading(average and point if you know it) they used to set the roof design?

Thanks
Chris

Ok fair enough. What a shame though.

I was just so excited to see photos of these great sounding projects, and then so disappointed to see that in fact there were none. And it looked like a great conversation was going on regarding them (all 90+ pages of it or whatever).

I applaud your efforts and ambitions, however.

Good to see you 'back' Sam!

Nice to see and hear your progress.

You might want to take all that you learned from your experience and publish it.
There are online publishers, as anti-thetical as this sounds for a semi-survivalist type home, selling a pdf or Kindle style book would likely be easy, and probably make a few bucks. Sort of a "I did it my way -- here's what I learned the hard way" tome. Especially now that you have it so far along you will end up bored with all that free time on your hands! I have to imagine you are saving 10's of hours just in not driving back and forth to the job site (though now you can't leave being the sometimes down side).

I don't remember the specification on either the dome or the flat roof. I know the domes can handle 80,000 lbs over a specific area. All I remember is it is massive over kill compared to conventional housing.
