My two Brothers & myself (much of the family that is) has done or does building construction of some type. When remodeling my sisters home we were cutting out part of a attic wall area to re-frame some. When the sawsall hit something metal. turns out it was framers square (not a normal one) while 90 degrees on outside it had french curves on the inside (turned out to be a Dress Makers Square) in french writing/text on it. The home was originally built in the late 30s to early 40's. The couple were a Eye doctor from Germany and his wife a French Dress Maker whom he had met in 1st world war. the neighbor Doyal had grown up in the house next door and still lived there until now a year ago. The square was green in color ~14x24 or so stamped and well preserved (cept a saw mark we made.) was a keepsake of my sister & brother in law for a good number of years until they passed. We found it somewhere around 1986... Doyal a single bachelor, was still in his home until a year ago when he moved into assisted living his home was bought by a local factory and raised the next day... it had been built by his dad & uncle, there family owned about 40% or the property around the town ran a large dairy farm, bakery & market. very nice person he ate dinner with my sister & brother n law every night shared in the cooking and cleanup...
when expanding her garden out back we found buried probably 200+ pairs of old wire framed glasses. Sure made it hard on the rototiller! yep I was one running it when I hit them...
took 30 min plus cutting with diagonal pliers to get them off the tiller.
I like that Hammer Story, pretty good one. We have found a good number of old tools in walls floors and such.. we did a re-model on a childhood home (rental unit) there was a part attic that we played in as kids and a knot hole swallowed one of my fav. hot-wheels. looked but it was no where to be found. The knothole board and a few right beside it was gone replace some time in near past
dang I missed that one lol... I think it had been tore out for a ceiling fan in lower unit.
We did a lot of doors & windows and often found old pennies nickles or dimes on door frames ect. usually put them back in and even added NEW one next to the old ones for luck...
