Yes I hated to see that there was some damage with with the Military museum. Looks like some damage to the front with the fallen soldier and the P51 mustang is history. but it looks like the building is still OK.. I took my father in law, to that museum a couple of years before he died, and we found a an example of the old machine gun he was the first gunner of a three man crew on in WWII. It was an old Browning 1917 water cooled. It meant a lot to him to see that again, and brought back a lot of memories.

Sad to see an outcome of these storms... RIP to the victims of hurricane.
But I'm thinking how could it be possible to avoid so much destruction in the areas mostly affected by the tornadoes or similar disasters in the future? Example: to put the power line cables below ground, to build stronger buildings or to apply the requirement to arrange a concrete shelter under the floor in each house so to minimize the damage especially number of casualties? Or at least to arrange an obligatory warning 24 hour system of tempestuous danger. These are just thoughts ...
Well it's easy to philosophize, but the reality may significantly differ from what you are ready for, and what unexpectedly Mother Nature brings to us ...

Tornado passed by my house 3 miles to the north. I'm about 17 miles west of where the damage went on in Harrisburg. Storm woke us up. I checked radar and did not like what I saw. Stuck my head outside, and realized something bad was going on, and yelled for everyone to the basement. Actually.....if we had been in the path, it would have been to late. By the time we had shuttled everyone including my 85 year old mother-in-law down there...the storm started to decline. It did roof damage and flatten a barn north of me, then skipped it's way to Harrisburg where it sat down hard.

That was far closer than I like. A weather radio...has been ordered.

Natural occurances only become natural disasters when people or infrastructure are involved.

One of my pet peeves is people who are allowed to build in the same flood plain after they have been flooded out for two times.

Natural occurances weather related, landslides, earthquakes and more have always been here, we just have better communication. The American Indian had to deal with Tornados, but on the plains the population was not concentrated and static.

Today population centers are widespread and static. It just a matter of time when something hits your area.
