Walking stick?

Buy a walking stick? What the? Go cut one.

I have done that, but I carried one on trips and while at work where I spent a lot of time going out in high crime neighborhoods and rural areas. A Blackthorn Walking Stick fit right in and offended no one.

The only time I use my stick is when I am on my fitness walk around town. I carry a 1 inch square tube made of aluminum and 4 feet long. I sprayed it with a rubber coating to make it easier to hold on to and it keeps my hand from turning black.

This could be a shady area. I don't believe the stick by itself would be considered a deadly weapon, but I do agree depending on how a person presented it may be an issue. If your fellow worker had been a young college girl would she have gotten the same charges? Reason I write that is because there was a time yrs back(The Bundy days) that it was even suggested girls have something like this.

Go to "sword canes". I search quite a few websites and found basically the same info in regards to sword canes. It is not my purpose to be argumentative in any way. It is only my wish to help inform the readers about the legal possibilities resulting in carrying these. That is why I interjected in my initial post, that one should check their local and state ordinances.

Do you keep breaking them on something?

Nope, never broke one, but I like mine well enough that I've actually bought 4 more for gifts, so a total of 5. Prices may have gone up in the last 2 or 3 years, but I bought mine at the Love's Travel Stop in Mt. Vernon, TX, and the others at the Love's Travel Stop north of Denton, TX. I paid $24.99 plus tax for each of them.

I make mine from a small hornbeam tree. The flats and texture of the bark make for a sure grip and I would hate to be on the recieving end of a well placed swing.................

I use an old hockey stick that my son left here... and it comes in handy for flicking the scat off our walking paths. (why do the coyotes always crap right on the path?) Usually when we see one, he's heard us coming and is a few hundred yards away already. You never know when you surprise a coyote and he turns on you... a good whack on the nose with the old hockey stick should set him straight.

I didn't think you were being argumentative Creekbend, I also believe you brought up a good point. I would imagine if someone were walking down the road they more then likely would not be in trouble for having a walking stick. Now if their standing outside a bar on a saturday night yelling and waving a stick they may be in trouble:D. I have seen cases where base ball bats were considered weapons, and charges filed. I quess it would depend on the circumstances ?

My father carries a black boken that I used to use when I was taking Aikido. I can only imagine what the burbs think of him walking around with that thing, walking a little white bischon. Just thinking of it makes me laugh.

Back in 1972-74, I had a good friend that was an Aikido Master. He was a native of Peru, and had to leave the Country because of the "Shining Path". I "Tip my hat" to you.
