Hey, just like Lee Harveys marksmanship, if it happened, it happened. Maybe because this event happened to you makes it seems not-unusual. But to me, the story does sound incredible.
Now, if we just had some 8 mm film of the yote, where's Zapruder when you need him?

The first time I heard of how far this one particular coyote captured and tagged went, I found it incredulous as well. I too thought they lived and died within a 20 mile radius. This other coyote was also hit by a car in Natick Ma. but was let go from a southern part of RI. and the collar returned to the vets office. In the first 6 week time period, The yote ended up in Mansfield MA which is almost 45 miles away. The interesting part to this is that there is a very large body of water between where he was let go and where he was found. Because the transmitter did not give out a signal, they lost him for 2 weeks. They do not know if he swam the distance (miles) or walked around. ( alot more miles). As far as the situation I spoke of, when I heard of this incident, it did not surprise me in the least that the yote traveled 7 miles in 3 hrs. knowing what I knew from before. I can understand someone not being able to wrap their head around the whole thing. I think if some questions were asked before hand, the sarcasm part may have been avoided however,
You seem like an aces and humorous guy at any rate and you have a cute kid on your tractor so I'll give you some points just for that. Unfortunately, I did not think to take pictures but I never seem to think of that at any time when one needs pictures.
I can only hope ufo's don't land at my place.

Interesting : I'd be interested in knowing the name of the organization and how the coyotes are captured. Care to reveal that information.

Absolutely: Narragansett Bay Coyote study. It is my understanding that they are caught in cages sort of like a big Havaheart type. The vet my wife works for is a Dr. Pratt. Now I understand that they are putting antennas on ducks as their migratory patterns are askew. They think it may be the wind turbines off of various shorelines that is causing this. And while I have you SR, I could not make out the picture of your small pole saw horse. Care to take a better picture of it or at least one you could blow up a bit more so you could actually see it.?

The distance traveled by healthy coyotes in studies, is not incredible to me.
But, the rabid yote from your story, sick enough to attack a human and her dog, that traveled 7 miles in 3 hours to do it, is incredible to me.
And as I mentioned, the distance thing is only one of the reasons that your story sounds incredible to me.

None of us knows the other, so rather than question someone's honesty, I just believe what I reason to and let the rest go, because whether or not I see the veracity in it has no bearing on whether it's true.

I have a neighbor about 500 yards north of my place. About 1/2 in-between and a little west is another place. There is a fairly large male coyote that has lived very near the west place. He has been the for over 4 years.

When I use to walk up to the north neighbor, there would almost always fresh scratches and / or scat. My little dog ( only about 140 pounds ) would scratch out his, freshly mark them and his scat. Now and they she would try to trail him. Poor girl does not have a very good nose, but she is pretty good at back tracking.

Place is vacant now, the last guy that lived there had a big German Shepard, but never left him out.

The property is only a little over an acre with about 1/4 of cleared. Living on the same property is a large Antelope Jack Rabbit, several Cotton Tail's and at least 1 covey of Quail. When going in or out of my place very often see the big jack, and / or the quail & cotton tails. Some how 3 of his favorite foods have survived living within 150 feet or maybe less.

This has been a very dry year and he could get under my fence at a drain line. In spite of having 2 outside dogs, he would slip in and get water.

A smaller female ( I think female ) set up house keeping real close the the drain line. I at first though it was in the drain, but wrong. She would slip in and get a drink. I saw them together a couple of times. When my dogs were close he walked down the fence a couple times. Don't see either 1 of them and have blocked the hole they came in.

Twice lately when going out have seen the male going home from farther east. 3 Days ago he Walked across the road just in front of the truck. Stopped and looked at me, then walked down past the trailer and stopped to eat something. Have never seen him actually run from anything.

Think he or she goes by once or twice most days as the outside dogs run out and guard the fence. The coyotes are staying in the brush as they go by as I never see them anymore.

The guy shooting this video is pretty big and healthy and the coyote in that clip was trying pretty hard to eat him.. In broad daylight and there was only 1 coyote !! I'm guessing it was hungry...

I saw this video a couple of years ago and my opinion the guys was totally wrong in his behavior. The coyote was walking away and then he called it with a kiss and he started to play by running away. I think his interaction was as wrong as feed wild bear. Now that coyote, if still alive is less scarred of people.

I also came face to face with a coyote in NJ, two trails intersected and my wife and I walked out and the coyote calmly turned and went in the other direction.

My concern is now we have vacant land in NY and we pack food at times for lunch, I know this will most likely attract either the coyote or black bear so we will have to watch our behavior. I am still not about a weapon yet because I can only have a rife and I really do not want to carry one around all the time, we have never seen either just scat and tracks but I am sure they have all watched us though.

There are degrees of rabidity. Obviously this particular animal did not have the full blown type of rabies we are accustomed to seeing in such movies as Ole Yeller. As a matter of fact, the only sign of something being off was the time of day to see what is basically a nocturnal animal. Perhaps in another 2 wk period, this coyote may have been a little more incapacitated and sick not to be able to muster up enough force to move that kind of distance or attack something as a food source. As it was, he only needed to move at about 2.5 miles per hour to cover that kind of distance. When I saw him, he was still able to move with authority. His disease may have had only started to have infiltrated his brain.
