3 cyl vs. 2 cyl?

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get the parts of an old tractor in Japan.
Now except for standard parts, such as ball bearings and oil seals, the parts of YM cannot be got. It is because the person using the tractor of the 1970s hardly exists except for an exception like me.
The front axle broke several years ago.
Since I could not get the parts, I welded them by myself.

I think only way is to find another scrap, probably,it is easier in the US.

I have been to the United States many times.
And I was very surprised when I knew so many old Yanmar tractors were used in the US.I am afraid that all Japanese old tractor were sold off to the US?

We hear a lot of stories on here about where the old tractors go after they are retired from use in Japan. Maybe you can help fill in the gaps in our knowledge. Here's what we have read:

1) Japanese tax law encourages replacement of a tractor with a new one after a few years. Possibly the tax on the tractor increases as it gets older, or when it is no longer compliant to pollution laws?? This means that export dealers in Japan collect used tractors to sell overseas where they are worth more.

2) One American importer both goes to Japan to make his purchases, AND posts on here occasionally. Here he explained that the Japanese exports go all over the world:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yanmar/162423-yanmars-going-cost-more-real.html#post1870055

3) Many, maybe half, of the used Yanmars that arrived here were bought in Japan by Vietnamese repair factories and painted like new in VN. Some are in excellent condition beneath the paint, while some have problems. An alternate story is the tractors served a second lifetime working in VN after they were imported there. Then after one lifetime in Japan and a second life in VN, they get painted and sent over here as 'rebuilt'. In any case there were some huge VN-owned import houses here who said they were owned by those 'factories' in VN. (One told me he received 400 tractors each month). Now with the dollar/yen exchange rate down, I think there are only very few US importers remaining and they buy straight from Japan.

4) Many of the Yanmars here are 20-35 years old. Because of the excellent quality they still give good service. Culturally, we expect old tractors to keep on working because many old American tractors are still good at 60 years old. Of course this requires stores that sell repair parts. There is good support for the old American tractors, and now for Yanmars starting from about mid-1970's. I expect much of this support is replica (copy) parts made in China that ignore patent laws.

Do you have any information that corrects this picture? Is our understanding mostly correct?

I am not getting Yotangs pictures, only a couple of boxes with and x in them. Can one of you computer gurus tell me what I need to do to access them?

I'm certainly not a computer guru. The pictures are listed as being here and here. I use Firefox on a Mac. Under tools I can go to "Page Info" and there is box to check/uncheck to display (or not display) images from geocities.jp.

This is probably right up Domush's alley; maybe he can give more specific advice.

I have a "rough" idea about what you are talking about. I went to "tools" and experimented turning off a few things but never able to pick up his pictures.

I clicked on your "here" and just got a page or two of Japanese writing. This old country boy struggles in this computer generation.

I'm not sure what to think now. On my iPad, when I click either scoops' links or my own, I get the Japanese page without an image. On my computer, theymworkmfine and show up. Maybe scoops has a hint as to where to look or how to change your settings. What browser and operating system are you using?
