So... on my YM1700 I have a dip stick for the engine oil and one for the hydraulic oil. They both say the same things, "oil" and a Japanese word, are the same color. They have the same thread so could be interchanged, which leads to my question. Which goes in which oil? The only difference is that one has a longer metal post with a crosshatch pattern about 1 inch long, and the other has a shorter metal post with a crosshatch pattern about 2.5 inches long.

Um i dont remember but i think they would be correct the way they are? Very few people drain both at the same time and lay the caps togeather and mix um up. My oil goes on the tire when i take it off and the hydro lays on the floor board.

I think the one for the engine oil is metal and the other plastic??

I would measure but im 160 miles from my tractor as i type.

preformed maint on mine last week. changed oil , etc, The oil stick on mine is metal with metal hash marks. My hyd dip stick is plastic. My oil is larger & won't fit in the hyd oil hole

I should have started with this... here are a couple pictures of the 2 dipsticks. Between them is a US quarter for size reference. Both sticks are metal. The crosshatched pattern on the long stick is only about 5/8" long. The shorter stick was in the engine oil, and the longer one in the hydraulic fluid.

I'm sure I didn't switch them, but I'm wondering if the previous guy might have. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!! :D)

My oil is the 1 with the many crosshatches. My entire oil cap/top & all is metal

..the top on both of yours plastic.. But, mine is a 3110... maybe something with the same tractor will chime in

That looks correct but I'm going from memory, I'm not at the ranch right now. Hopefully someone else can verify this too.

I put a tiny punch mark halfway down that long crosshatch on the shorter stick, to indicate where four quarts of oil fills it to. This so I can verify that my YM240 doesn't use any oil, maybe 1/16" on the dipstick, between annual changes. You might pour in four quarts at an oil/filter change, and see if it reaches that midpoint.

Mine too. With plastic used for the transmission cap.

I think it is the same. I posted this picture to show a temporary oil gauge I installed to verify that my sender needed replacement. But the picture also shows the all-metal threaded dipstick. (YM240/YM2000).

Logic tells me that the one with the shorter crosshatch is the engine oil. Long one is hyd.
