I went to a local dealer this afternoon and they had the smaller DR Chipper in stock - for just under $2k!

I'm sure it's a very nice unit, but at about 3x what I paid for mine (even with the machine shop work I had done).

One of the things they did was to add a lower bracket so that the draw pins could be moved down, which gives me a lot more ground clearance. The parts painted in black are the ones added.

I've probably got about 12 hours on this unit and really like it a lot. Over the next couple of months I'm going to make a dolley for this (and another for my BH) so that I can easily move it into position for winter storage.

I just bought one of these chipers at auction for 210 bucks tried it out for awhile . It seems a little hard too feed was wondering what adjustment they had ,I read somebody had knives made bigger. I sharpened the knives helped some but you really need gloves .Probly cant do more than small pruning with this thing .But chopper is great for chopping bark up. I might just kept it for that .Iam running this on my 1510 ford tractor .

You're responding to a thread that's almost 4 years old, BTW (we all do that sometime or another...)
Take your knives to a professional for sharpening...it'll be worth the money, since it really sounds like your knives are dull (even if they look sharp).
Dried out stuff is tough to chip and dulls the knives fairly quickly...freshly downed material is much easier to chip.

Good luck, be safe and...
Welcome to TBN!!!

There is specialized equipment to sharpen blades and such. One of the main things to to hold the workpiece at the correct angle and not let it get too hot.
I can sharpen a drill bit, but I'm not good with lawn mower blades and chipper knives. Anyway, I no longer have access to the equipment.

Jay,
I just bought a super apache chipper yesterday and wanted to get a manual. Do you still have the PDF. I have not been able to find one anywhere. Thanks for any help you may have.
Chris
