Sorry - I didn't make that very clear. Apparently when I apply the brakes a little it puts enough load on for it to stop for some reason. When it is really working hard it runs fine and with no load it runs fine although it is getting worst. There has to be a govenor that opens up when under load?? Mechanical or electronic?? I'm assumming changing the timing or opening the injection pump?? Could it be the problem and if so where is it?

Ah! You are draging the brakes to put a bigger load on the motor! Yeah I knew that this would temporarly fix it.

Does she skip like that when she is cold too? Did this tractor had some engine work done? Did she skip like that since you got it or did that pop up recently by itself? Does she skip while idleing?

Not sure what to tell you but RickB gave you some real good guesses. I am not sure if a broken valve spring / bent valve lifter rod was covered in this thread, but just in case it wasn't, it is now.
I am afraid... but I guess it is time to take measurements and then take one thing after the other off, check for wear, dirt and specs.

I'd start with a new fuel filter unless you recently changed it. Then I'd take the valve cover off and check valve springs and valve clearance. Then I'd be doing a compression test and test the injectors. After that you are either inside the block or into the injector pump. Unless it has something to do with a timing, or valve adjustment, I don't think it is cheap to fix, unless you can do everything yourself.

My old Case TerraTrac was skipping all the time unless I had it working hard. Ended up doing a full engine rebuild because the engine was worn so bad (wouldn't start without ether even in the summer). First thing we noticed, I had bent valve lifters, broken valve spring, and half of the piston rings missing and or broken. Pump and injectors were fine.

I'm thinking it's time to ship it off to a good NH shop - if there is one. Expect it to be very expensive - but I don't want to pull a kicker baler and load around with a Ford 4000 either. It would handle it but not the hills. 6 weeks and we will be haying! Sort of between a rock ... . Will see if Messick has any thoughts tomorrow.
thanks.

Trust me, I'm not guessing. The fuel delivery pressure test all but proves my point. Adjusting the static timing may help the symptoms, but won't cure the problem.

You validated the lift pump pressure was OK so if this were my tractor, I'd pull the injector pump and send it in for testing and repair. RickB has plenty of experience with these NH's so I'd take his advice.

That pump should be removed by someone having the exact techincal information pertaining to that specific pump and tractor along with the ability to understand and implement that information. If that means a NH dealer, so be it.

Rick - that is my thinking exactly. Messicks is sending some things NH has suggested but I am sure the pump and/or govenor are the problem.
Thank you all. I'll keep you posted.

It's been awhile and I know we all like conclusions to problems. I just visited the patient at the tractor hospital so - they checked the temp. sensor (adjusts timing on the injection pump) - it was out of spec. helped but still popping. Retimed the pump, off 2 degrees - helped but still popping - sent the injection pump out - nothing wrong - isn't completely back on yet but they are not optimistic. Mechanic was on phone with CNH while I was there asking for their advice. They have worked through the whole report from CNH including valves and everything we already talked about and tested. Sorry no conclusion:( ! There must be a lesson or 6 or 7 here someplace. Very discourageing.

I was wondering the other day if you had this issue resolved. Maybe you list off what exactly you / your mechanic did so far. Do you know on which cylinder she is missing on?
