My dad retired as a captain with 35 years of service from the Nashua, NH fire dept, and I sort of went a different direction into the police force. I've been a cop for 9 years now, but also a volunteer firefighter and EMT for 2 years. For awhile I was trying to make my way into a fire department, but I've found that I'm getting too old to start a new career and the positions that are open have begun to be too political and competitive for my taste. A big salute to all you guys though!

Virginia is the first place I've ever lived with Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

I have a HUGE appreciation for all those who sacrifice their time and safety. I've been known to pick up the lunch tab for the Vol's on a Saturday when I could...

Personally I would LIKE to be a Vol EMT, but I'm not sure I have enough spare time to make it worth it to them...

I keep saying, maybe someday...

I really applaud you guys for your service to my neighbors and myself.

15 years with city of Syracuse, Captain E6. 21 years total in fire services.

My uncle retired from Syracuse,also worked for Jerome Fire Equip. Jerry Stevens. You might have smelled some of the same smoke.

Battalion Chief in mid-size west coast city, retired last year.

30 years total service, all in suppression; FF, then engine and truck captain, then last 10 as BC.

Miss the job and people very much, but glad to be done with the beat-your-head-against-the-wall city and state politics!

Started out as a Marine Firefighter and Diver Medic back in 1978 while working for various Diving and Salvage companies...been associated with one or more Vol and paid services doing one or both ever since...

Not quite fire but retired from 18 years vol rescue up through paramedic in central VA. Our area was also a little different than most because we did the special/technical rescue as well as dive.
