Just a couple of good old boys in a farm truck. You gotta do what you gotta do.

I used to go hunting in Lupton, right down the road from Rose city. I was told by locals that it had a higher welfare and crime rate than Detroit, at the time. Kinda banjo land - north.

I observed a load of firewood in my town this winter that was about twice as tall as that one. I really wish I had a picture. It was a 250 or 350 series truck in my case. It scared the living ***** out of me, as I was driving down a two lane road and it passed me on the left. It had ratchet straps galore, and actually the springs weren't overly sagging, but definitely unsafe at any speed! It probably only cleared the traffic lights by a couple feet. They had all the split wood stacked really tight- this guy had 6cord back there or I'm a monkeys uncle.

WIsh you had a pic of that!! But 6 cords is a streach. A full log truck, you know the semi kind will only haul 10 cords!!

6 might be pushing it a bit! But for a longbed p/u with spit wood packed so tight you could hardly fit a cigar in the chinks, and stacked about 12ft high easy! A cord is 4x4x8 stacked, 8ftbed+tailgate= 10ft longx12ft highx ~7ftwide= 840cuft = 6.6cord!!

I think you may have just insulted Banjo-land ...

I don't believe the tires would stand up to the load in the photo?

Sad thing is that I have seen overloaded vehicles just like in the photo.

I saw a car at Home Depot one day towing a single axle landscaping trailer. I think the car was a midsize late 80's, early 90's GM four door. The trailer hitch needed at least four bolts but the only had two. You could see the unbolted part of the hitch bending to the ground.

The trailer was being loaded with long fiber cement siding which overlapped the trailer by a good 3+ feet. I am not sure how he was going to be able to turn the car without hitting the siding. I saw this years ago so my memory is fuzzy but I remember the siding was stacked on something heavy in the trailer. Something like bags of dirt or concrete. The siding was flapping and sagging on the ends since it was stacked on the other material in the trailer. Both the car and the trailer were seriously overloaded. Even if the hitch had been bolted on correctly it was overloaded. Of course there was not a break away chain attached to the loose hitch.

I sat in the parking lot for a few minutes watching this idiot load up the trailer. The HD employees were hiding. :D I almost called 911 on this guy because if he made it out in traffic the trailer hitch was going to fail, the trailer was going to bust loose, and it was going to be ugly. After I watched him load up the fiber cement boards I figured this thing was not going to get past the first speed bump if he could even make the turn out of the loading area. It was only going to be a question of which broke first, the hanging trailer hitch or the hanging fiber cement siding.

Later,
Dan
