Great job. That was a monster. I am going to make sure my wife does not see the picture of your outdoor area. She wants the pool, pool house, and outdoor fireplace. Your beautiful back yard would make her jealous and lead to me being poor :)

Thank You Buck12
Since I did everything myself I'm just teetering on being poor. except the pool itself of course.

That is exactly what I used last week to remove three from front lawn. After using a ripper tooth to sever all horizantal roots the water softened the vertical web of soil and root mesh. After popping from rocking it I used a metal spud to knock any clumps before removing a clean stump. I think the sloshing effect forces volumes of water back and forth through the root mesh loosening its hold.
After backfilling with soil and water is absorbed in the ground on the next day sod clumps placed back on top and tamped level.
Gary
PS The first stump is the flamingo stump in second picture. Little BX24 did the work.

I was going to say, two different principles going on here. A pool will float up like a boat because it becomes bouyant over water saturated soils. The stump most likely let go due to the soil holding the roots in place turning to mud and thus letting go. Either way, a good idea for stubborn stumps.

Once it let go it did seem like it floated I could very easily move it around in the water I'm sure it was still touching but not stuck in the mud or anything like that.
As long as it was in the water it was my toy, I remember spinning it around with the hoe trying to find the easiest way to stand it up. Lifting it up out of the water the backhoe strained and the tractor goes down. It definitely was lighter in the water so there was some buoyancy to it.

Congratulations on using your noggin to come up with a better way to get that sucker out. I do have to say though, it shares some plot elements with the "lakeside mowing disaster" threads I've read.

I'm going to have to try this. Been plan on digging out a LARGE maple stump this week now that kids are back in school. I'm going to dig around it and bring a fire truck over, blast the dirt off and flood the hole. I make sure I get some pictures.
