We bought a 2005 Kubota BX2200. The dealer was to service it before delivery and supply me with a manual for it. First off, the thing was never serviced...... No biggie, I'll do it myself, but the manual states that the only thing to be greased whatsoever, is the HS drive pedal and the battery terminals at 50 hour intervals. HUH? :confused2: There is a zirk at each end of the driveline, and one at the front axle pivot point and I wasn't even looking hard, so I'm sure there's more of em. I did see that the VIN number actually shows the tractor to be a BX2200 D but the tractor is badged a BX2200 on the hood. Still love the tractor, but I'm confused. Is there a difference between the BX2200 and the BX2200 D? And what about these other grease fittings? I needs a correct manual. Aside from the dealer, where can a person find the correct manual?

Oh man I hope you didnt end up with one of the dreaded "D" series BX tractors. Just kidding I think the D just signifies a diesel engine. Though all of the BX tractors I have ever seen are diesel. Same thing.

The D stands for "dual drive", or 4WD. And if there's a zerk, I shoot grease into it on a regular basis, could care less what the manual says. There may be times and instances where too much grease or new grease is bad, but I've never came across it.

When it comes to greasing, fluid changes and such you will never get a consensus. Some go by the manual and some don't; lots of threads often heated on the subject.

As to the BX2200, I don't remember specifically, but I can check my 2660 if you would like. I did grease all deck zerks including the rear one on the back U joint which is a bear and regularly greased the FEL.

Grease your FEL every time you use it. The pins will thank you for it.

I wouldnt be concerned about the letter D. I would, however not to take the manual at full face value.

In the kubota world - its seems like owner manual is only a guide and it has few ridiculous things in it.
For example, mine says use liquid ballast when doing FEL work and not to go over 75% but you must remove it when USING the backhoe. HUH!?:confused2: Who in their right minds will remove liquid from tires and put back in on a daily basis?! same with putting grease on batteries every 50 hours. Let me just say this- it is a good idea to coat the battery terminals to prevent corrosion that we all have seen, but every 50 hours?! it doesnt wear off or anything. so take this info with a grain of salt if you will.

As you already correctly guessed, most of the stuff on the BX is common sense as for maintaining it. As for getting the correct manual - I wouldnt look for a manual. I would order the work shop manual for your BX or WSM its called. messicks is one of the online kubota suppliers or your kubota dealer can get them too. messicks dealer is a TBN member here so go to the message part of this forum and shoot him a message.

Okay, thank you so much for the heads up. All better now! I think I'm going to head out and do our first seasons mowing with it!

If it helps, I sold our old BX2200 to someone who doesn't even own a grease gun and has "been meaning to have it serviced" for the past four years and leaves it outside; runs like a top.

No, I don't condone it, but these are tough little machines.
