Best deal ever on a John Deere 955

Hey. I have to share how we bought a 1993 John Deere 955 with a Mod 70 loader and a Mod 7 backhoe. We have been getting free firewood at a country club (no we don't belong to it) close to our home. The guy who runs the show there let us use a 955 to load the large rounds. I told him several years ago if he ever wanted to sell it, please let me know. They had a blower on the back for blowing leaves. He finally called me and said he was ready to sell. Hesitantly I asked how much. He said 15. I asked 1500? He said yes! I immediatly took the money over and got the tractor. I put new tires on it, new motor mounts and some seals. It now sits on our mountain property and is being worked pretty hard. Not sure if I'm sharing this story or gloating, but I sure like that tractor.:thumbsup:

Congratulations. 955's are really nice tractors. I've got a 96 model 955 with 70A loader that I've owned for 10 years. Never a bit of trouble with it. Lots of power in a compact frame - very handy unit. You need to post pictures!

Wow, you could get 3 times that for the backhoe alone, well done. My 955 was a great tractor, it just had a hard life before it found me and I finally got tired of all the tinker time so I traded for new. I'm having just as much trouble with the new, I should have kept the 955!

Took the words out of my mouth. The backhoe alone is worth at least 2-3 times that amount. To get that tractor with FEL and BH for $1500 is robbery!

I would be willing to bet that if previous owner advertised the 955 for sale at $1500 some moron would have shown up and offered $900. One of the joys of trying to sell something yourself is listening to the insulting offers that you get no matter how you price your item.

My first thought was I wonder if he'll take $1200 but my wife saw me thinking and gave me the stinkeye. It's worth every penny i paid for it. I've done so much work to my land and I'm just getting started.

Issssh, is that a tear in the seat? Ouch, I'll give you $1400 to take it off your hands (I'll have to get a new seat of course).

I will say I had images of a beaten old tractor being held together mostly by JB weld and duct tape with more hydraulic fluid flowing than Angle Falls, but now I'm really impressed. That tractor looks like it's in fantastic shape. I'm pretty sure you could be charged with some type of crime for taking it for $1500, even if the previous owner agreed to it :thumbsup:

Wow. For that amount of money you really did steal it. That is a great looking tractor. For $1500 I would have bought that thing if I had the chance - not like I'd need it, but for $1500 it would have been mine!!

I've been working the tractor pretty hard every day. Digging trenches, moving yards of soil, lots of firewood that I have cut up at various places around the property, and just clearing more land. All this and the only problem I had was a battery cable failed. Works pretty good. Even with the tear in the seat! Not sure how I did without it.:confused2:

I know what you mean about a counter offer. Some times I think its in my blood, but obviously you knew it was an amazing dealing already.

Around here if you stole a horse like that, we could lawfully string you up!
