John Deere 4054R
We have a John Deere 4052R HST and even when we use it to blow the parking lot off in B range for half hour first, and then go down the road after in C range, it will not go over 10-13 mph and after 3 miles it will creep up to 18.5 or so mph after going down a hill a bit.

We leave it pluged in when not in use and weather has been -10C or -14F

Bought the tractor from dealer in early December 2024

When I talked to the dealer a few times and he said they went out to a newer tractor of the same model and he said it does the same thing.

When it first happed from the dealer when I drove it home. They sent a tech out the next day and the tech said to leave the (Auto Engine) botton on and (Auto RPM) button on when using it.

Which makes no sence, should be able to give 3/4 throttel and drive down the road. Had a 1025R and it was flawless HST this 4052R is peddle by wire so not sure if it is a saftey thing driven by temp of HST but it is a little much.

Anyone with the same problems?

Not a JD, but my HST will slightly bog down in high range on the road, more so when driving through snow or slush (even a small amount). Mashing the HST pedal increases the gear ratio, making it bog down more under an increasing load.
My road speed is all over the page with varying conditions of hills and snow, but not particularly affected by ambient temperature.
If high range speed varies too much on the road, maybe just stick with medium range and high rpm's. In any case, I wouldn't worry about it.

We are talking half speed on a flat road which is not right.

I had a 1025R John Deere, which I could push the HST to the floor and it would climb hills, etc. no problem 25 horse slow down a little bit as it should but not drop to half speed.

The 4052R goes around 19 to 20 miles an hour so when it’s cold out and it only does 10 mile an hour to 12 mile an hour seems like there could be an issue or a safety feature that I’m not aware about.

Has the hydraulic fluid been changed? Sometimes there is a lot of crap in the HST leftover from the factory. JD also makes a regular Hygard and a low viscosity version, the low viscosity might work better. I have a much smaller tractor but when it’s cold out I can hear the engine work harder until it warms up the hydraulic fluid,

They said they did a fluid change at John Deere when I bought it but I did notice the fuel filter date as
2023, so who knows.

I will look into the low viscosity. Funny it is great in 'A' and 'B' range but not in 'C' for road untill hours of use. LOL

What is the operating temp range of the fluid the deere dealer put in?

Yes, it matters. Maybe the guy running the lube rack that day was an idiot and put in the wrong fluid.

I run synthetic hydro all year round and have zero issues operating down to -40 F (C).
