Another thing ... all grasses ... any blend or flavor you prefer ... must be managed. You just can't go out and say I'll make that a hay field.

One must determine the proper cutting stage to make hay, the proper grazing stage ... this is an occupation where we spend $$$$$ ... research, talk, listen and learn... anyone can go out and bale a round bale per acre ... good management and we can bale 4-5 bales per acre.... takes the same amount of time, fuel and equipment.

Good grass hay in Ohio is about 2 tons per acre, but a lot of if's.......
You estimate 4-5 rolls on your land. Thousand pound rolls?
A lot of Ohio hay is on rotational crop fields. Alfalfa, corn, soybeans.
Grass hay is usually timothy, oats, and alfalfa mix. A lot of grass hay is then cut for a few years without replanting; just fertilizing. And it goes down hill to weeds from there but still baled and sold. Used to be a good market for that in strip mine reclaiming. The soils in Ohio vary a lot. The glaciers missed the eastern part but leveled the western part. I don't care much for averages. There is too much cost/yield differences to establish an average.

That looks like the cutter the guy runs that cut the ranch I help at,is it a SMI? I stopped by and took a couple picture of that pasture that was cut last month with the johnson grass,it jumped up fast and got a picture of the Bull over at the ranch I help(the pasture he's standing in was cut 3wks ago),maybe next year will get me a charolias bull and keep the new angus and sell the other angus.

It's a HayMax 165 Drum Mower....I love the thing. When I get on a smooth pasture I can cut in High range...about 11 mph! The Belarus is my partner/neighbor in this hay thing and I'm not sure what model it is but I can say it's a great tractor. Last year there was a Sheik from one of the middle eastern country's buying up all the Belarus's he could find. They stuck them in containers and shipped them out...so that tells ya they are a dependable machine.
