OK, I couldn't stand the sight of a shinny new tractor for 1 more minute, so I finally decided to do something with it, just for the sake of getting a little dirt on it. My son and I pulled out to go get a scoop of dirt from my pile of topsoil to fill in a few holes in the lawn when our first problem hit.

As we were moving across the lawn, we hit a bit of a bump and all of a sudden there was a thud and it felt like we ran something over. I stopped, dropped the bucket and got off to see what was going on. The scarifier tooth from the edge of the box blade had caught a lug. There was a little damage to the tire, but it didn't seem to be leaking fluid and the box blade was rammed into the back of the tractor. I was concerned about the 3pt arms since everything had moved as much as it could to take the force and everything was cocked to the side. We jumped back on, slowly reversed a couple feet, dropped the box blade a little to get it further from the tractor and went back to inspect. There doesn't seem to be any real damage. I always traveled with the 3pt hitch in the full up position with the CK30 and it left lots of room. My sway bars were set properly but the DK just raises it so high, it come too close to the tractor.

Anyway, once we dealt with that, we went for our first scoop of dirt. OMG is this thing a BEAST!!!!! Yup, there's a difference...
Your new tractor is trying to tell you something about how wide to set the rear tires. The closed in all the way configuration is great for shipping them but may not be the way you want it set up for regular work.

I'm pretty sure based on specs and other threads about the width of DK's being wider than expected, that mine are set as wide as possible. Width isn't the problem though, there are scarifier teeth the entire width of the box blade, and the box blade needs to be wide enough to cover the track of the wheels. The problem is I was carrying the box blade too high and that brought it too close to the back of the tractor. I'm going to set the stop for the 3pt to keep it back a little more. That will still be much higher than on my CK, but back far enough to ensure it can't grab a tire again.

I see what you mean about having the box blade cover your tracks. I hadn't thought of that. Are there optional length 3ph arms to adjust for different tire sizes or is it one size fits all?

Why cant the loop be factory installed? My beef with this is as much with the fact that there are NO warnings about it as about the "feature" itself.

i am beginning to think your the guy that is causing all the warnings to be added to stuff like hair dryers. My wife's hair dryer came with a warning that said ":

1. Do NOT use while in shower
2. Do NOT use while sleeping
3. Do NOT use to heat food



now tell me, why do some people require EVERY detail in life to have warning labels. If that were true id never be able to see out the windows.

After a similar event I now turn the outer 2 scarifiers around backwards so they can't hit the tires. (or however many might contact your tires, that is - my BB is only 5')

Ya, mine's only 5' since it was sized for my CK30, but the outside tooth on each side falls directly in the middle of the tire. I think the DK has an adjustable stop for the 3pt position control (the draft control definitely has one), so I'll look at setting that make sure I don't do it again out of habit.

I'm pretty sure it's one size fits all. A lot of tractors have a couple positions you can put the arms into. In one position, you get extra lift capacity and height, in the other, the 3pt will go down further. I'll have to check for sure, but mine must be set in the extra lift position.

Also do you have your anti-sway links set up reasonably tight? Moving to one side or the other can bring the box blade closer to the tires.

Yup, after I got it unjammed from the tractor, that's the first thing I looked at. There wasn't enough sway to change the position of the pin on either side.

+1 Thanks for stating an point of view that I share but did not want to state because it changed the original focus of the thread. Perhaps those wishing to discuss safety labels, specify tractor feature alternatives, etc., could start new threads. It would likely draw wider audiences and lively discussions.
