Trading my L2800 gear for L3800 HST... opinions on dealer offer?

I do mostly FEL, BH and residential mowing. I also do a fair bit of BB and rake, but I really need the maneuverability/speed of HST.

If I did more straight line or ground engagement work, there's no doubt in my mind I'd go gear. I know that my L2800 gets every bit of power to the ground.

Also, the L2800 generally runs out of traction before it runs out of HP.

Come to think of it, it has never been short of HP for BB, middle buster or FEL work.

Makes sense. HST is very handy...

Does indeed sound fantastic.
Problem for me is the weight.
I often load several implements to accompany the tractor to a job: TLB, box blade, rake. Makes for quite a load on a 10k trailer, not to mention my truck.
I want to keep the tractor weight in the 3k neighborhood.

Ah ha. I usually think of tractor weight as a limitation for protecting lawns/turf. But trailering, too - of course.

Along those lines, the Mahindra 4010 looks mighty interesting. Right at the 3,000lb. mark, lots of ability.

L3800 is a bit lighter. ;)

I have a Mahindra dealer right down the road (lot closer than Kubota dealer) here and almost went with one. It was right near the top of my list after looking at the top brands. But Kubota has been so reliable for me since 1984, I had to get another. No regrets with my L3800 at all !

I know, having a super-dependable machine sure does make you think twice about switching, especially when your dealer is reliable and good at what they do.

The ability to get on and off either side of the tractor is really appealing (I hate having to go all the way 'round) and the jumpy 3-pt. hitch bothers me. The Kubota L's share those issues, otherwise I wouldn't even hesitate.

I want to do this soon, but I'm keeping my options open. "Fools rush in..." and all that.

Have you discounted a Grand L? I know they cost more, but sure are nice.

Getting off both sides on the L is an easy fix. Just pull the rubber knob off the FEL control, Shorten it, and put the rubber knog back on:thumbsup:

I did that years ago because I got tired of getting snagged getting on and off that side:confused2:

if your considering buying this from us, we/I have never been able to duplicate the jerky hitch thing. If you get one that does this, you'll also be the first one we find a fix for.
