Mahindra Considered 2nd Tier?

I will agree that when a person is making a living with their equipment, many factors need to be considered that are not that important when it is just for home & or hobby use.

As far as quality of equipment, yes Mahindra's equipment is just as good as anyone else's. Not better and some of the others offer options that are not available with Mahindra, different trannies and such with different models, but if you compare different makes with the same features, yes I believe that Mahindra is just as good as anyone else's including John Deere or Kubota, Massey, New Holland.

Because the previously mentioned companies offer a wider variety of equipment and options, I will agree that they are better suited for the USA market. That does not make Mahindra a company that manufacturers junk, just that they do not offer the same variety of equipment that some others do.

Service is by dealer, not brand, so service should be considered by the dealer. We have all read how dealers from all brands can make or break how a person feels about their equipment.

Just my :2cents:, no one needs to agree with me. ;)

 Well said!

Didn't find US specific but here's some worldwide numbers:
"We began manufacturing tractors in the early 1960s for the Indian market. Nearly 50 years later, we are the world's largest tractor company by volumes, with annual sales above 214,000 tractors annually. With a presence in more than 40 countries and a network of over 1000 dealers, Mahindra has sold well over 1.75 million tractors worldwide."

Anybody else remember when Kubota was considered cheap, Japanese junk?

Impressive stats but the 1000 dealers is what worries me. How many dealers in the states do they have????

I would be curious to know that for all models if anyone has the time to do the homework.

I'd almost be that kubota, deere, and CNH have close to 1000 dealers JUST in the USA.

Their website doesn't give a listing, but does allow searching by zip code:
Mahindra Tractors - Locate your Closet Mahindra Tractor Dealer

I've got 3 within 50 miles of me. Same number as JD (actually, since all the JD stores are part of a multi-store outfit, it could argued I only have 1 JD dealer within 75 miles).

Well Mahindra's website says they only select reputable equipment dealers to represent their line, which is curious since only one of the 3 dealers they listed as being close to me even called themselves an equipment company. One was a camper shell dealer that I already mentioned the other was a trailer dealer.

Somebody had mentioned that Kubota was similar 20 years ago, I know that not to be true. I went to work for my first Kubota dealer 25 years ago. They had a robust dealer network and Kubota had strict rules about how you became a dealer. They made sure the dealers were sending their mechanics to service schools and gave incentives to do so, their parts network and ordering was as good as and better than some even today, and their factory reps were very hands on if there was a problem or warranty issue.

I can't say if Mahindra is the same way, but from the outside looking in it looks very similar to Kioti, which I know for a fact that 18 years ago all you had to do to become a dealer was buy two tractors. There was almost no factory support and getting parts was a challenge.

Of course, these numbers are fluid. The dealers get this information from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers or other sources. One of the dealers out there could tell you the proper source for their information.

the last I heard, it was still Kubota (by a large margin), Deere, CNH, then... ???? Kubota and Deere are 75% or more of the market. CNH has had some up's and down's as they have moved to LS.. but I'd imagine they are hovering around the 7-10% mark as they have for years. The last 10-15% is spread between Mahindra, Kioti, Bobcat, Yanmar, LS, etc. I'd concure that Mahindra is probably taking the largest chunk of the remainder of the market.

Its difficult for anyone around here to make a statement that tractor X is better than tractor Y without offending some dedicated owners. I can say from the brands that we service and are on/off everyday that not all tractors are created equal. The LS New Holland's are not on par with the old ISM New Hollands... the LS ones are a bit cheaper, but clearly thats come at some cost. Even the best of the ISM models really struggled against a Kubota when it came to features/value/quality. Really though, everyones applications, needs and expectations are different and the best way to make these decisions is to get your butt in the seat and have someone with experience help you work out whats the best machine for your application. I'll trumpet Kubota in this space, but a professional farmer should still be running a CNH product. Not one company does everything perfectly. Trusting the internet, and message forums alone is a sure way to make the wrong choice.
