What is it with women and clothing, anyway?

It's just one of the basic differences between women and men. Don't try to figure it out. DO try to get something in return for her new clothing purchase (maybe some new tools or tractor attachment).

Or maybe she is getting even for that last purchase you made for your tractor!

I don't think you will find many here who will disagree with you, but that's just the way it is.

I will add that I don't have a lot of clothes either. I do have a couple pair of $700 or $800 boots and a few $500 or $600 hats. My wife has probably 20 pair of shoes that did not add up to the cost of one poair of those boots. I don't complain much. It won't do any good anyway.

You must be kidding...$800 boots? $600 hats? I probably have not spent $1400 on footwear and hats in my ENTIRE LIFE, combined, and I am 60 years old....

And to those here who say we have too many tools, one NEVER outgrows tools and they ALWAYS have value and DO NOT become obsolete like fashions do. I was at Goodwill today, probably a quarter of the merchandise offered for sale was womens clothing and shoes, but the TOOLS that were for sale would not have cost me more than a $20 bill.

I REST MY CASE !!!!

True.

I recently (within a few years) replaced every stitch of clothing I own with stuff bought at a Salvation Army store. That place is like a wonderland of stuff I normally would never pay full price for. I admit, I have 2 closets and a walk-in closet of nothing but my clothing, now. Before it would all fit in one small closet, but at $1 per shirt.. it's amazing what a few $100 bills can buy. The funny part is.. I now suffer the same issue many women do.. where to wear all of this crap, as I now have about 60 dress shirts and gave up the 'business casual' rat race a couple of years ago.

I don't think buying cheap and saving a fortune is limited to tools, or women, I get suckered in with "hey, that normally costs..!" too :confused3:. As for paying full price for this crap.. I'm still lost. At least at $1/shirt and maybe $3/pants I can convert just about anything to a tractor repair outfit with little regret. I'm the best dressed greasemonkey on the block .

I'll dispense my man card into the appropriate burn barrel shortly..

Roy, obviously you have never read an issue of ESQUIRE magazine....

It's been a lot of years since I've looked at an Esquire or even a Playboy unless I find one laying about.

Y'know, JD...you could save yourself a lot of grief if you just became a cross dresser. Then you and you wifey could share...

Dang JD. As tight as you sound you ought to be thankful you got a woman who will put up with you.

Lighten up. Dressing up makes women feel good about themselves. And when they feel good about themselves they are generally nicer to us. More pastries, more *** etc. get it?

Not to be a smarta$$, but how many tools or tractor related items do we all have that we don't need?:D

Solo

NONE I need all of them AND she can use them

By now, hopefully you have become comfortable with the fact that she is right and you are wrong. We can go forward from here trying to figure out what's wrong with you. I would suggest it is your perspective. It's a wedding and 5 new outfits is what is normal. She only plans on buying 1.

80% savings, how could you complain about 80% savings?

:)

Well then you have been missing out my friend. I say let the wife get a new outfit. Then go buy yourself soem new jeans, a nice new shirt, some fancy boots, and a good felt cowboy hat and go to that wedding in style.:D

Seriously though, the expensive boots and hats I have will probably last for decades. I do not wear them much, and take care of them. Most of the time I am in a worn out pair of jeans and a stained shirt. My wife actually bought most of the good stuff for me. I guess she was trying to tell me I looked like a slob and needed to fancy up a bit. I have learned that whatever makes her happy is good with me as long as she don't put me in the poor house. At least not in a poorer house.

edit: I meant to quote JD from an earlir post to not be too confusing. I guess I hit the wrong button again. sorry

Actually, I'll spend money on clothes occasionally.
Not much "dressy" stuff though...but I do like Filson foul weather gear, and it ain't cheap!

Most of my clothing comes from Good Will.

You are saying out of 140,000 plus members here nobody is going to give me a good answer? Surely you are kidding !!!

OK, the answer is biological. Women feel the need to remain attractive to draw the attention of masculine men that likely possess the caracteristics necessary to continue and improve the human race. It's not their fault. Clothes are simply bait to draw men away from hunter-gathering and tractors.

The bottom line is that Women love to look attractive. I, myself, appreciate the "Fuss" or extra attention that women indulge in. Picture this? Would you regard a woman attractive if she she never shaved her legs or underarms, never used make up, or fixed her hair? The same goes for clothes, although I think some Women buy some outfits just to be buying them, because they love to shop. And who doesn't love lingerie?
