Did a little hay last week ...

weve got hay down in 2 places right now.an nite before last got an inch of unexpected rain.baler man cut about 4acs yesterday evening.said some of the hay was getting dry enough to bale today.so i figure he will start after lunch.then he said when he gets done here he going todo a place close by.an then take a day or 2 off bring his tractor an gooseneck trailer.an we are going to haul an stack hay.gonna be rough hauling close to 300 round bales.

Thanks ... I hated squares, nick named them "idiot cubes" ... I like them now!! Especially with the price difference between the square and round bales. I don't know for sure how many squares are in a round ... a guess would be about 20 and at $8 a bale ... well thats a little more than a round bale ... yes its more time consuming.

Yes, A lot of city girl horse folks will actually pay top dollar for a bale that is 14 x 18 x 22-24. They weigh about 40-44 pounds and are much easier to handle for them when hand stacking and getting down to feed. If they can get hubby or a teenage son to help, they like them too, as they can show off a little by handling them with one hand. It's all about psychology of marketing Of course, you know that from being an a Auctioneer
Some of your old time repeat customers might notice it at first and object, but if they are small acre horse folks or boarders they would probably prefer the smaller bales. A reasonable explanation for the downsizing is other customer preference and fuel costs.

All so very true .... I'm hearing customers now wanting to go back to square bales because the price of all hay by the ton is higher than it has been and they are looking at the loss factor. My most recent customer is parking the round baler and bringing back the square baler... he told me me with feed bunks and a grapple he can carry 10 bales at a time that have been stored inside with absolutly no waste .... who am I too argue?

Thinking about those 22-24" bales ... I've not heard of anyone marketing them .... I may be able to get 16 bales in the grapple unit. I think I'll try some ... what are those size bringing per bale?
