Hit the bonus round last night: 3 coons .... in 2 traps ....

One adult in the large trap, two kits in the small trap ....

Kudos to TBN member PineRidge for tipping me on the bait that they can't resist ....

What was the bait? I have always used cheapo stinky canned cat food. 80 here right now I am beginning to put together a free standing deck Gazebo the wife ordered from Sears. Might have to go buy more tools to do that.... we were supposed to get the gazebo and a smaller pergola for the other deck but when they got here to deliver them the driver told me the pergola was damaged by a forklift and they could not deliver it, which means I have to undergo yet another stay-at-home-and-wait-for-redelivery....GRRRR. I will give them some credit, they arrived right smack in the middle of the projected 9 to 11 am delivery window.

What was the bait?
Peanut butter on saltine crackers ....

I used white toast instead of crackers the first night because I thought I had tossed all the stale crackers .... found a pack of 'em last night when I went to bait the traps ....

I take and spread a gob of peanut butter on the crackers and then use the crackers to smear some of it on the little plastic dish/tray (Stouffers frozen entrees) I'm going to set the bait in, and then stick the cracker to that - so that the cracker is stuck to the tray .... smear some of it around elsewhere on the tray too .... so they have to futz with it .... hopefully tripping the trap ....

Seems to work good - I've scored the last two nights ....

I have always used cheapo stinky canned cat food.
Problem with cat food is .... you might get cats .... and other stuff ..... although I suppose that is a possibility with peanut butter as well :D

80 here right now I am beginning to put together a free standing deck Gazebo the wife ordered from Sears.
Sweet .... I look forward to the day when we get the deck rebuilt and have some functional space outside where we can relax and entertain ....

It's 80 here too and sunny - I just came in from doing some trimming - managed to break a sweat - think I'm going to find something to do in the shade that doesn't require much effort until later on .... probably move the fill inside the barn ....

Might have to go buy more tools to do that....
More tools are always good

It's nice when they don't keep ya waiting .... too bad on the pergola though ....

Remember: pics .... or it didn't happen :D

I have a problem using peanut butter in in raccoon traps, I'm afraid it will attract elephants! Ever try getting an elephant out of wire trap? It ain't easy and they usually tear h3ll out of the trap!:D

You are doing it wrong, guy !!! For elephants you use peanuts in the shell as bait, not peanut butter !!!

DUHHHH!!!

The adult coon that I got this morning got a pretty good start on tearing things up - the plastic tray I put the bait in was shredded and sheetmetal guard under the handle had been dislodged and bent up .... musta been a real unhappy camper ....

The kits have been the real aggressive ones though when I go to move the traps - they snarl and growl .... not that it does them much good ....

I have an old home built live trap that is made of steel mesh, treated lumber, and steel angles and flat stock. The coons always chew up the treated lumber hinged trip board and destroy the wire I use as a trip wire....but they are easy to replace. As for getting rid of them, you can either feed them poison and wait for it to kill them, or as I do, drive about 5 miles north with the coon, hold the trap out the back of the truck at a 45 degree angle and use a coat hangar to pull the door up...the varmints will be so happy to get out they will scuttle away doubletime. I have caught and released several that way, have my .380 at my side the whole time just in case one ever gets nasty.

I heard it called a "float test"... That's what I'd heard was effective at least...

66 with a dewpoint of 65 this morning.

Gonna ride my Harley again today even though yesterday I got drenched in Chantilly as I rode home.

The wife was right, only way I could MAKE it rain was to ride...

Be well guys!

Good Morning All.

Was 55 earlier and is now 61, just came in and now to begin computer time, then back out to work on the gazebo assembly. Darn, only need two tools, an allen wrench and a phillips driver, no need to go buy more.

71 here now...very nice! Looks like high 80's today and maybe some thunderstorms.

Good mornng! A very pleasant 62* here and sunny with a high in the 80's. No rain in the forecast until possibly the weekend. Been out hunting groundhogs the last few mornings. Got one yesterday. Now only 2 or 3 more to go. They can really make a mess of the dirt floor in the shed.

73 and sunny here @ 09:30 .... heading up to a high in the mid 80's .... looks to be a beautiful day ahead.

Only got one coon last night (in the small trap) .... maybe I've got the majority of 'em ....

Got a bunch of compost screened yesterday, along with getting a lot of the fill moved inside the barn ....

The area for the creek crossing in the woods was a little too wet yesterday to work on, due to a little rain yesterday morning .... hopefully it will be drier today and I can work on getting the crossing built.

Still trying to figure out a good spot to plant the hydrangea .... maybe back behind the leach field ....

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.
