I needed a 1 inch bolt for an implement once upon a time. When I got to the hardware store, I found they had rearranged the bolt department. The helpful clerk couldn't find one, either. He asked me if I could use two half-inch bolts instead.

NO way, there is no way anyone there could be that stupiud!!

I mean i would ask that with a straight face if i was the clerk in that situation then laugh like ****, thats just my sense of humor, but trust me you would know that i was joking.

I love our local NAPA. I called about some suspension parts I needed for my son's car, was informed by the gal on the phone (the store owner's daughter) that they sold a repair kit that saved the old parts, but replaced the bad bushings, saving me $50! I drove in the next day and with a big grin, she promptly pulled a box from behind the counter as I walked in. I never told her who I was on the phone, and I don't even consider myself a regular, but she still recognized my voice and knew exactly what I was there for when I walked in.

She has consistently proven to be better than most of the other guys behind the counter.

Gotta love small towns and knowledgeable, intuitive people!

Yea my small town carquest is great.( Napa has been put out of business twice in this town of 3k people. )Many of his prices are better on things than at autozone. Now parts are the same price or higher on parts but oil and filters and seafoam etc are cheaper than say Advance. He recognizes me and knows most in town. I dont buy parts from him, hate to say it cause im a price guy and i buy at advance cause with coupon codes its cheaper. I do buy filters and bolts and small things as he is 10 mins away vs 30 mins to the other places. Feel bad not buying everything from him but, i really cant afford to do that. I just am not financially sound to not worry about $30 on a $75 order ( i got codes to save 40% on this size order at advance.com). I also have and maintain 5 vehicles 1 that i am gonna get back running to sell and a tractor and all the yard stuff, and boats....

Really happened, probably about 1970. The clerk was new, a teenager, but I don't recall seeing him again, either.

it has gotten to a point if i goto a store for a part, i just ask, if i can turn the monitor to see it and have access to keyboard / mouse. if i get just a glimmer of a lost cause. or get to a point if over phone, to make sure we are on both same manual from same location, with same model numbers. and on the same page. other words, a complete rear. it must be the age catching up with me.

Hey, it is not at parts stores, its everywhere. I went in to a Piggy wiggly once , stopped by a checkout and ashed the checker what isle would I find chow chow on. She told me it would be on the dog food isle. Just happens a manager heard and told me what isle it would be on and then said these young people don`t know alot about things we know. We both laughed and I agreed.
