How to rig an X595 to mow in reverse

Carl Bert, I believe in another post you said you have a child right? Well imagine he gets on the mower and he accidentally or he purposely pulls up the pto switch and he doesnt now how to shut it off. Or he doesn but he hits the wrong pedal and the mower launches in reverse and runs over a pet, another child or a tree and ruins the tractor/mower deck? If that switch isnt implemented then you or a neighbor just lost a pet, child or tree/schrub, or your $8000 dollar tractor for major repairs, the gearcase on the deck is worth about $400 bucks or more. So i think getting used to a switch or atleast keeping it active when it isn't you on the mower is a really good idea.

Not to mention the liability of that pedal and since i worked at deere as a mechanic and was told what could happen as a dealer or mechanic that did let you know how to do that, i could possibly be held responsible because the people who do stuff like this and something does happen, they usually point there finger somewhere else instead of at them selves. I have seen it, currently my mower is bypassed and it is my fault if something happens even if someone else is driving it, i dont let anyone else drive it unless they know the switch is bypassed. I have a cild on the way so it will be hooked up correctly because i'm not taking a chance at all. Just my opinion.

Oh and it was added because another company got sued because someone was hurt mowing in reverse so the john deere legal department strongly suggested they follow suite.

And what if said child goes forward with the PTO on and does the same thing? The reverse switch will not help there and being as I back in whenever possible that scenario is more likely.
A working seat safety switch will do more in your scenario than a reverse switch as a child small enough to do that would be light enough that they would trip the seat switch if they tried to move the tractor.
Having the keys secured to prevent unauthorized use of the mower would completely eliminate the risk there.

What if that same child got in your car, started it, put it in reverse and hit the wrong pedal, running over anyone or thing behind him. Ridiculous scenario isn't it? Well so is the one you just stated. Cars, tractors or any type of motor vehicle, are obviously not intended or designed for children or their safety. If you set up a situation where your child does have access to a motor vehicle, there is only yourself to blame for what happens next.

Why not just leave a loaded gun on the kitchen counter?

Point is that switch makes it more dangerous to mow in reverse, because it limits your ability to turn completely around. If it temporarily stopped the blades from turning, that would be different, but it doesn't. Or it it were mounted on the rear fender, forcing you to turn around, but it isn't. It's just there to protect John Deere, not you or your family. I think I've said enough on this subject.

Well if you pull up on the pro and push the reverse pedal the switch can be let go until you let off the reverse pedal, so you don't have to hold the switch up as long as you keep pressure on the reverse pedal so it is safer. He said in another thread that his son takes the tractor for drives, he is allowing his son to drive it. I live in illinois, liability is a problem because as you said the sec the keys are put in something the owner is responsible. Too many people "know" everything and "do" everything so perfect they sue companies. Just like Briggs and Stratton someone sued because Briggs built a motor and said it had x amount of horsepower. Well the person that sued synced that motor and it had w horsepower so they sued. For that moron that was so worried about it, every company changed their ratings to torque, their for the comparisons arent hp any more. For all I now this same moron ran someone over in reverse so every company is at fault because you can't fix stupid. Just like the comedian says. So get your panties in a bunch all you want I was just telling you it's not gonna change, their are reasons for the safety switches and we have to learn to live with the choice some people make. Do I believe it is necessary safety switch, no. Do I agree with that moron that sued, no. But we live with it everyday. Also as a mechanic their are things you just can't let people know and I wouldn't post it on the Internet.

It doesn't do the PTO clutches any good either, but nobody thinks about that.

I thought about that the first time I had to change the electric clutch on my L130 at 76 hours.
