How can i make my jd 345 mow while backing up?

gshep41, I have the solution, but you have to PM me to get the way to make your 345 mow in reverse without shutting down the PTO, or holding up on the PTO switch. I'm a old retired electronic technician and I did this to two others JD tractors back in 1986, 1990, and on my 1999 JD345. Also on my 2011 JD2320 with 60" deck.

NOTE: I'm not responsible for any actions due to a safety law that you may break, and the information I will provide you , you will be at your own risk.

I can also let you know. It's very simple on the GX345. Just PM or email me.

The problem we're experiencing is intermittently when I go into reverse and pull my switch to keep the mower going the mower cuts off and I can't get it going again. This can be after hours of mowing or minutes. It has a mind of it's own. I'm not trying to disable it because it is a pain, but because I can't mow my grass. We just bought from the dealer a new switch thinking that was it, but noooooooooo. With all this rain its getting even higher and 5 acres won't be easy to mow if I keep going this way. Do you think if we followed the instructions you posted on the 23rd will help with this? It seems that it is something in the reverse since that is the common denominator.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Which post # are you talking about? I would be interested in finding out if jumping the reverse switch solves your problem.

With the mower deck removed, look underneath to find the switch that is activated (opened or closed) when the reverse pedal is depressed.. move that switch so it is not activated by the reverse pedal.. on my X485 it was simple to find and just rotate it out of the way.

How to disable the switch was the second post in this thread in 2012. The question is still being asked in 2017.

Mowing in reverse with small children in the household who could run into the yard or riding on the mower while being used for mowing could have disastrous results, causing serious injury or death.

The first step I would take if I was attempting such would be to remove the deck. I would then find where the reverse pedal comes through the floor board. I would look for a switch attached in such away that when the reverse pedal is depressed it toggles or turns off the "Engage Mower" current. I would then remove the bolt holding the switch. I would then secure the switch with tape or a tie wrap in such a manner that it cannot be activated. Do not- Do not try to jumper or cut wires. You will also loose the back up lights on the unit when you have the switch deactivated.

The work area is somewhat restricted. I think the bolt size is ten mm (10-mm). It could also be smaller.

There are plenty of places in the internet that show you exactly how to do it. I disabled mine at the connector at the back of the PTO switch on the dash. Took about 5 minutes to do. But be warned, if you take it in for service the Deere dealer I bought mine at said that Deere makes them test the safety circuits and repair them. I don't know if it's true or not but it would suck if the dealer tried to charge you for "fixing" the modification. As long as they have your tractor they don't have to release it until it's paid for or you go to court.

The dealer has liability if they don't fix the safety features.. and will charge for doing the work.

Just put it back to original before taking it back in for dealer work.
