In that situation, I would try to always hug with my arms on the bottom/inside. Fairly easy to do without it seeming weird.

Good advice no doubt cover the weapon as best you can! However in this instance it was awkward in that I am 6' and she was 5' in heels and took me by surprise in a crowd. That and she is a farm girl it was ok by her. So I was not in any danger of starting an incident that time and she hugged me from the front that time. ;)

Here's my solution to the tractor carry problem, a belly pack:

www.tommysgunpack.com - Home of the Original Tommy's Gun Pack!

(That's a fanny pack worn in front.) When I ordered mine online
they sent me the left-handed model by mistake, but one email
fixed that at no cost to me. That left a net positive impression.

I use it with a P229 in the quick-access main inner compartment.
There is room for a spare mag or two in the outer compartment,
and for wallet, keys, cellphone, GPS in the other inner pocket.

On two occasions I have drawn and chambered a round in preparation
for shooting feral hogs. They are legal to shoot at any time here. It took
a couple seconds.

The pack also works well for hikes on and off trail. It gets dusty on the outside
and needs brushing off after a day in the woods and fields, but the gun stays
clean. Also, there is a barrier of waterproof padding between me and the gun,
so sweat stays out of the gun compartment.

Since I carry in my pocket most often, one of the primary "rules" of pocket carry is to NOT carry anything else in the pocket other then the holstered gun.
Also, never try to reholster a gun in your pocket...pull the holster out and put the gun in it, then put the holstered gun in your pocket.

or.. get a gun with a NFA legal shoot thru holster. IE.. one with the top frame of the gun unwarded.

thus you draw the holsterd gun together.. and can repalce it as easilly. prints square like a wallet. works with the keltec 32/380 and the small ruger lcp? and one other..

Better to carry all the time so it is like your favorite pocket knife, I'd be lost without my carry weapon. Better to be prepared.

yep.. better to have it as a learned habit.. than something unfamiliar.

That's why i don't respond to posts like the one from BD.. that's like asking the question, 'have you stopped beating your wife yet' a yes/no answer isn't a good thing either way.. :)

we that have carry permits choose to carry in an exercise of our rights and for self defense. it matters not if the weapon is seldom needed. if it is ever needed. it's there.

I've never had a claim on my homeowners insurance. but I've had it since I had my house... does you no good to get it after the fact!

I've thought about this issue alot over the years, and the way I see it, there are three groups we, as gun owners need to concern ourselves with..
1. The antis.. we know them. We don't need it reinforced that they are against our way of life.
2. Ourselves.. Gun owners can be just as destructive, and sometimes more, by their own actions as #1 above.
3. The great masses that are riding the fence on the question of gun ownership. And this group is the most important! It would be nice to have them on our side, but in most cases that is probably not going to happen, so, the best we can hope for is to keep them right on the fence where they have always been. This is far preferable than having them sway to the other side. To do this, we need to project the image of ourselves as sane, mainstream Americans, just like the great masses that ride that fence...

I agree with you 100%
