Recommendation for plow truck tires.

I didn't take your comment wrong I was simply putting out my thoughts on plowing and what I found to be the most cost-effective means of making a living with it. To be honest with you I've never found a diesel that has ever impressed me with gas mileage with the price of diesel fuel my brothers two trucks 7.3 and 6.4 are anything but fuel-efficient ;-) not saying a 5.4 does any better especially during heavy storms, but nearly $.80 difference per gallon it adds up through the winter whether he's plowing or driving the truck back to the shop and don't forget adding in the fuel supplement for the pollution control system which it burns through when plowing heavy I've often thought there's something wrong with his truck to use that much DEF? As far as weight goes you're right the super duties do a great job with their sheer weight not to mention a transfer tank 65 gallons fuel adds to the overall weight of the vehicle on top of the 1200 pounds plow take a guess what that truck weighs that's in the picture I've went through scales you won't believe it when I tell you by the way I listen to everybody it's the only way you can learn even at my age take care

I hear you on the weight, I was worried about the front end being overweight so I got it weighed. Empty 4400lbs, with the plow on 5500lbs!! Way over Fords ratings but after a few years I quit worrying about it. After having GM's it took me a while to realise Ford way underrates these trucks. Total weight of the truck with weight in the back is 9600lbs. Then I would throw almost a cord of wood in the back on top of the weight! CJ

I hear you on the weight that's about similar weight of my truck with transfer fuel tank half-full, however I'm pretty sure 2006- 2012 F350 single rear wheel has a front axle weight of 6000 pounds maximum so you have 500 pounds of leeway hopefully the driver of the truck is not built like a linebacker this is why they say operator only while plowing to keep the weight under control, not to be funny but another reason to put a gas engine in over the heavy diesels especially with the V series plows. The only recent problem had to replace the front coil springs from the stock 5600 pound rating to 6500 didn't really raise the truck anymore however improve the ride overall and of course there is no sagging when lifting the plow which helps when you have to drive 50 miles between jobs you can keep it high enough off the road but allow air into the compartment if anyone needs the spring codes i have them i'll post them later take care

I have a 01 with I think is a Dana 50 in it. In 02 they switched to a Dana 60. The 50 I believe was only rated to 4400. Heck the crew cab could not even haul any passengers and it was overweight by specs. I have a set of 6k front leaf springs is all and it has been a great truck. Never any overheating issues like I used to have. CJ
