Report :
I completed the Sharkbite work today . Got the old shut off valve cut out and it was semi - clogged . Sharkbites work pretty well, but aren 't quite as easy to install as the guy on their video does . Had to do a little muscling and rotating fittings to get the to seat properly . No leaks !!
Note: even though you can use many types of pipe be aware that the pvc stuff is a bit deceiving . I tried to use a 1" to 3/4 sharkbite reducer from my 1" pvc to 3/4 " copper . Found out that the 1" pvc was i.d. and the shark bite was o.d. Fortunately I was able to saved my old cut out reducer setup and was able to adapted it in system . Ultimately I used a 3/4 sharkbite coupler and a 3/4 sharkbite slide coupler along with my saved parts .
How did it come out ? Good news /bad news result . Good : Had no leaks . Pretty easy to use sharkbites . Replaced semi plugged shut off valve . Bad : I only got marginal improvement in pressure . Had to adjust pump switch up to 40/60 and even then its still not acceptable .
I may have clog problems at small diameter toilet supply lines and shower/ bath fixtures . But, I have the horrible feeling I may be dealing with a multitude of problems and no quick fix .
Summation : The operation was a success, but the patient died . At least I didn 't screw up to the point that I have no water at all
