I had a guy years ago tell me to run a piece of chain instead of a toplink for the rotary cutter. It worked nice til I hit something with it and it stood the cutter straight up almost tearing everything up. It could have came on over on me. Maybe the semi-mounts have something to limit the movement?
Not that I have seen though they are usually on the heavier units. The one I am looking at "converting" is a Woods 121 10' to pull with my L5740. I pull a Woods DS1260 pull type with my 8540 which is pulled from the draw bar as opposed to side links of the 3PH on a semi-mount.
Like I said, not advocating one way or the other as of yet I have no first hand experience, only what I have read and been told.
