I had a guy years ago tell me to run a piece of chain instead of a toplink for the rotary cutter. It worked nice til I hit something with it and it stood the cutter straight up almost tearing everything up. It could have came on over on me. Maybe the semi-mounts have something to limit the movement?

Not that I have seen though they are usually on the heavier units. The one I am looking at "converting" is a Woods 121 10' to pull with my L5740. I pull a Woods DS1260 pull type with my 8540 which is pulled from the draw bar as opposed to side links of the 3PH on a semi-mount.

Like I said, not advocating one way or the other as of yet I have no first hand experience, only what I have read and been told.

Here is another thread; lots of opinions:

You probably can get away with just 2 remotes if you won't be running a scraper with a hydraulic ripper bar. Also, when installing the side tilt cylinder, which usually replaces the RH lift link, move the manually adjustable RH link to the LH side to allow more tilt.

Agree, that is the way my OEM setup came. I have an LP HR35, thus the three remotes.

I don't have enough grading work to warrant a scraper with hydro scarifiers, so it sounds like the two remotes should do everything I will need, thanks for the info.

Yeah, two should do you then.

My first question is the top link, when mowing with the 3pt, can it be done with a solid toplink?

hummm perhaps you mean stationary toplink? I dunno, toplinks are designed to operate with the 3PH. the toplinks are threaded so you can fine tune and level the trailing end of 3PH attachments.

btw sounds like you have a real nice machine coming to you.

If when a mower is at mowing height, if the toplink can be put on so that it slopes upward (from tractor to mower) I can suspend the mower with the cutter rear wheel and the top link alone. So, the lift arms set the distance between the cutter and the tractor, but the top link and the rear wheel are what is supporting the mower height. An experienced farmer taught me that when I was a kid. It takes some fiddling, but it is a neat setup if you can accomplish it.

The neatest thing I have seen on TBN is using a chain for the top link, but that could be pretty annoying if the lift doesn't have position control. Without position control, I'd try like heck to get the setup in the first paragraph if possible, otherwise...I'd just have to fiddle with the lift all the time and use a chain.

It does give me pause when folks talk about a cutter flipping almost straight up when using a chain. I wonder if a man were moving along pretty quickly and something started the rear coming up, whether the nose of the cutter could then start digging in making it all much worse.

AFAIK you can get a MMM all the way up to a 5740, but I don't know if it could be used with the bh frame installed. It takes up a lot of room under the tractor.

The last one that you can put a MMM on the build my Kubota is a L3940. Philip8n said he got a L3940 because of that reason.

Odd, the sales brochure shows a picture of a 5740 with turf tires and mmm. False advertising?

It does but if you look at the next page that lists the attachments and compatible tractors the L3940 is the largest you can get the mmm, idk why they picture it with a mmm:confused3:
