Rain-X - Am I Cursed for Life?

Use a paint scraper (with single edge razor blade) and scrape the windshield (while dry). It will not scratch the windshield and you will be amazed at the white powder you scrape off. Clean the windshield thoroughly afterward with a 50/50 spray mix of vinegar and water. Dry it with newsprint. Sparkling clean.

The 50/50 mix works great on the inside of the windshield dried with newsprint. It cleans the film generated by the off gasing of the chemical on the dashboard that keeps the dashboard from drying and cracking. Leaves it streakfree.

I've used rain-x for years on multiple vehicles, in various parts of the country. Never a problem. Maybe it has something to do with the type of windshield washer/antifreeze you use? I have never had streaking problems. It is the best stuff in light rain -- the rain water just runs off without wipers. Maybe that is the problem (your wipers). When I use rain-x on my windows I rarely have to turn my wipers on except in a very hard downpour. Maybe check the manufacturers' website or customer service for info on your problem.

I've used it off and on for years successfully. I've also found that wipers don't last particularly well anymore. Usually not even six months before they are streaking.

Try some of this glass stripper: No Touch

Available at crappy tire. It contains an abrasive paste that will remove just about anything that causes streaks.

When used, the glass will behave almost like it has Rainx on it, but it's like that just because it's super clean, it leaves no residue.

I put new ones on my wife's car the other day and she said "didn't you just change them"
Seems the price went up and the longevity went down

I have used it for years with good results also. I even put it on the airplane and its much nicer than the wipers trying to keep up with us going upto 525 mph. In reality though, on the airplane we only used the wipers below 250 mph or so and below 10,000 feet. I have not turned them on in a good 10 years since applying Rain-X

I had the same streaking problems with Rain-X and similar products containing silicones. They might work ok on rear windows , but not so much on windows with wipers, or windows that go up and down. I bought a used truck that had the price, and a phone number, written on the front windshield with white shoe polish. The shoe polish seemed to come off with a scraper blade, but it left a silicone residue behind that was very difficult to remove. Whenever there was dew on the windshield, the price and phone number became clearly visible ! It was a bit embarassing.

I have never had the issues you describe when using RainX. I always clean the windshield well before applying. It maybe gets applied once per year. I love the stuff

As far as wiper blades, I am a huge fan of Bosch brand. In fact - that's all I use. Learned that lesson after replacing month old wiper blades because all they would do was smear. The worst seems to be Anco.

With the Bosch blades, I get 4-5 years per set. That's in Missouri weather, -15 to 115. Bug guts and ice storms.
