Hate to bad mouth the machine without getting my hands on it.
I can only tell you guys my experience, but my little Everlast PA-200 works flawlessly. I just wish I would have waited until the PA-300 came out, then I'd have adjustable arc force, and hot start, just like my $5,000.00 Lincoln V350-Pro has.

Too short an arc length.

I'm not sure you can even do that with 7018.
I was refering to 6011.

A lot of people just drag the rod a long the plate! I don't, I like to have control of the heat by controlling the arc length. Open the arc length and the heat goes up, close the arc length and the heat goes down. By doing this you change the voltage, it is almost like a very fine amp adjustment.

yah, I get it. but the arc goes out if i don't bury the rod.
I'd like to get my hands on your machine to see what is really going on:confused:, but as much trouble as you are having with that machine:confused3:, I think I'd send it back and buy an Everlast.
I won't send it back unless I'm sure there a defect with the machine, not just a quirk of this kind of welder.

I might send it to you sometime, but I'm not done trying it out yet.
BTW where are you located? I'm in MA.

I would like to get an Everlast machine too, just to see if there is any diferance. Not sure I want to put $300~ towards another welder I don't realy need, $200 maybe.

Have you tried any 6011?

Thanks for the great review Dan.
The problem with 6011 would be a deal breaker for me. I need to use 6011 or 6010 on this farm equipment that's sometimes really hard to clean up because of tight places.

Reading on some of the welding forums I guess it is not uncommon at all for these little inverters to have problems with 6010. Can't say I've ever read where one had problems with 6011 tho:confused:. Sure wish Dan could get a hold of some Hobart 335A 6011. I've done some playing around with this Hobart 6011, with the same joint configuration, amp for amp volt for volt it penetrates better than any 6010 I've tried, now that is Hobart, Lincoln, and ESAB.

Here is some ESAB 10P-Plus 6010 I ran with my Everlast PA-200.

With a 50lb minimum order I'm going to have to pass on that.
Tomorrow I'll stop by my LWS and see what he has available. I can probably get two of anything he has as a sample, but I need to find a source for smaller than 1/8 rods (LWS doesn't have much under 1/8) so I can run the welder on 120 volts(90 amp output).

Have you tried any other rods?
How about 1/8 7018?
