I had a bad experience with individuals wanting to hunt for free on property I had leased to hunt on. When I wouldnt give them permission, they stole some timber off of my private property in an attempt to 'teach me a lesson'. Reported the theft to the Sherrifs department and they began an investigation. The theives went to some of my neighbors and 'suggested' that they not get involved if they were asked any questions by the Sherrif's department. One of the thugs even threatened me with physical harm to myself and my family (wife and small children) for 'messing' with them by calling the 'cops' - which I also reported to the Sherrifs office. Needless to say, the investigation went no where. Several years later, I found tracks across my private property where the timber had been stolen and also some more property that I had leased. Set up a game camera and wound up taking photos of the guy who had threatened harm to me and my family. Took the photos to Sherrifs office and asked them to charge the individual with trespassing. They were extremely reluctant to do this and tried to discourage me by offering to go 'warn' the individual to stay off my property. I declined their offer and related the past history with this individual. Finally got an appointment @ the District Attorney's office and things started happening. Several months later, the individual pled guilty to trespassing and was sentenced. The Judge suspended the sentence and placed him on supervised probation for 6 months, ordered him to pay a fine, court costs, probation costs, indigent defense fund costs, was ordered to have no contact with me or my family and to stay off of any of my property. So far, there have been no further incidents with this individual. Have had to talk to a few of his friends who felt like they were entitled to utilize the property I have leased. Discussed those incidents with the Sherrifs office and they had some conversations with the individuals - who then decided to be a little more courteous in the future. Didn't like having to go to such lengths, but if you don't stand up for your own property and what's right, some people will run all over you. Sorry for the lengthy post, just a condensed account of what happened to me and I hope none of you all ever have anything like this happen to you.
