I don't understand why everyone is saying the Cummings has such poor fuel mileage. I had a 2010 that got 15/17 around town and 19/21 highway and I did hand calculate those mileages. I now have a 2012 ram 2500 with the 6 speed manual. It has 6,000 miles on it and is getting 14.5/15.5 around town and 17/19 highway. The 08 f350 I had with the 6.4 got 14 mpg highway on it's best day. So I guess I just don't see the "poor fuel mileage" out of the Cummings. Oh and by the way I pulled 10,000 lbs with the 2012 ram and got 13.5/14.5 on a 1,000 mile trip.
You are right, the 08 to 10 Ford's are horrible on fuel until you delete the EGR and DPF and program. But personally me, I was comparing 07 Dodge Cummins to my 07 Powerstroke. I was hauling travel trailers commercially at the time and the Ford was way better on fuel. But now looking back on it, the fuel and rebuilding the Dodges front end every 50,000 miles is cheap compared to keeping this Powerstroke running.
I'd like to try a new Duramax, but GM's interiors just don't appeal to me. They need to take a lesson from Ford and Dodge and make more storage and useful features on the truck itself. As a commercial user, you need the room to carry lots of gear.
The sad reality is they all have issues, so you have to figure out who is the lesser evil. No wonder so many commercial users are going back to gas. Thanks EPA.
