End of the diesel light truck

/ End of the diesel light truck #62
my 1 ton is my daily driver. i gave up my old 1/2 ton gasser for it.

I was routinely towing at or above max on the 1/2 ton.. got tired of white knuckling it.

I nver know when i'm gonna need to move something.

I'd say yhere is something heavy in or behind my 'daily driver' more than half the week. 1 bumper pull trailer I move often is heavy enough that it sqyuats a 3/4 ton past what you would like. and has damaged 2 1/2 ton trucks that TRIED to move it. :)

I'm never looking back to gas or itsy bits trucks.

I was in an accident a few months afo.. guy in a f150 hit me in the rear. ruined his hood, front nose clip, both quarter panels.. all lamps, and his bumper.. he had to pry the quarter panels off his tires to pull intot he jiffy next to us. Oh.. I got a DENT in my bumper smaller than the DENT i put in it backing intot he touge of one of my trailers earlier that month. he hit me near sqyare across the bumper and the hitch.. hitch ATE his trucks lunch as it was taller than hit bumper mostly..

I hope he's happy with that small one. I wouldn't have been. I also like the fact that I can set under my truck without crouching when getting at the spare.. etc. :)

Buddy of mine used to drive long haul would say in an accident you wanna be the guy on top. I'll keep my 350 ps just for that reason

I bought a diesel this year, not because I tow heavy a lot, but because I have always wanted one. I like the fact I use the same fuel for everything, like the way the power rolls on, like the sounds of the motor spooling up and just find it, well, kind of fun to drive. I guess I could have went and bought a Mustang, or a vette but I do need to tow my UTV and tractor from time to time, plus the truck sure is handy for hauling things so why not get the diesel and enjoy it. I am not a drinker/smoke/gambler so where some use the money for those activities I use it to pay the difference for my diesel. I only get about 6-7K a year on my truck a year so the difference in fuel/maintenance really didn't concern me. Just some food for thought.....

yep.. being the shorter / lighter / smaller vehicle in the accident is rarely fun...

I figured up one time that if you bought a diesel you would save about $3,000 at a 100,000 miles in fuel.

All depends on how much you drive, how you drive, and what you are pulling. When I was shopping for a new 2007, I figured it would take me 7 years to recoup the additional cost of the diesel base strictly on fuel savings.

I agree the diesel would be a tough sell. Especially with motors like the Ford Eco Boost making diesel like power on gas. Its only a $600 option when a diesel would be $6000.

I like the idea but the dollars and cents dont work out.

Chris

Chris - You may want to update your data base. A recent check of the window sticker lists $1095 as the cost for the eco option, quite a ways from the $600 that you stated.

Re: GM announced the beginning of the end of the diesel light truck today

Lol, do you really need to hold 70mph up a 10deg hill...

No, but it sure is fun with my 1997 Dodge/Cummins that is turned up just a wee bit :D

Look at a window sticker for a F-350/250, with the diesel option, I bet it is 9,000 plus dollars today.
