Why you should change your oil

He does have alot of towing knowledge...However some of the stories I have a tough time buying including some of the logistics that started this thread...I'll just keep that to myself as it would add nothing.

Maybe i dont understand the deffinition that you want used but this thread was started about a Ford that had metal in the oil if i remember right? Wasent untill someone bashed a ford and he stabbed back that all the rest of the past history of his previous posts came out. I too think he is telling the truth on all that has happend to him in the past. After all this is the internet, its not like he will sway the GM sales one way or the other to make any amount of difference if that was his goal?

I too own both GM and ford. I currently have a GM car and Old truck. I also have an older Ranger and have had a ford tempo. I am not that well off and dont buy many vehicles and never a new one but have had a few vehicles in my limited years.

Chris (DP) and i have compared notes on this before. I will be the first to tell you that my Saturn burns oil like crazy, and has tons of sensor problems, due to the tiny wires used that seem to give fits with age. It has burned pretty bad since under 100k. its now at 223k. i also have a ranger thats has 290k, it has burned oil since i have had it but just gotten worse in the last 90k miles. But i epect that at that age. There i have one of each that is an oil burner. Now the old tempo i had burned very little oil out of the pan, but it did have stem seals that would seep so at start up and from a long idle would burn oil visibly, just did not amount to much over 3k miles. I also have an old work chevy k10, that burns a bit but mostly leaks the oil, and i would not call it much of a problem.

I am not making any of this up nor have a reason to, i still own all the vehicles except the tempo. Would i buy a GM truck or car or Ford again?? Yes i will look at that individual model and then decide.

As for the new stuff, i know a guy who has the Ecoboost, he does not get anywhere near the mileage as DP's dad, is he lieing??? But what does he gain by lieing...nothing? What does he care if i buy an ecoboost or not, he doesnt!! Each truck is different engines are different and milages vary even when all else is equal.

Also, a heavy foot can quickly change the mileage on any turbo vehicle, so the biggest variable is probably the driver.

I think you guys are missing the main point, the reason the oil was not changed for 18k miles is because GM took government money. It is a known fact that all automotive problems today are caused by this single event.

Now that is funny.

I've seen one worse air filter which was completely blocked to the point it had collapsed but I've never seen chunky oil before.

i wish i would have taken pics or video of my JD-B when i got it.

it was running.. purring fine for a pop-pop. changed the oil... it was MOSTLY water with some oil in it.. oil filter was so expanded and gummed I had to pry it apart and peel it out of the bottom.

I put in new oil and some diesel,, and in the end, changed the oil on that machine 5 times that day before it came out clear... I'd change it, then run the tractor around the pasture for 15 miutes.. I'd add a lil diesel or mineral spirits and some atf yo the oil... MAN ws it dirty....

It would be nice is if a limit could be put on the number of "my neighbor's GM/BMW/Dodge, (or other non-Ford of course) vehicle blew up at XXXX miles" stories by the same member. The offending member may not know it, but everytime he/she posts that same story over and over and over, it's not only boring to read, but insults many other members who own GM's that worked very hard for them and actually like them and also, more importantly, encourages retribution against other brands. It just perpetuates a cycle of negativity........... You insult my truck, I insult yours.......A big improvement would be to place a moratorium on any second hand "my neighbors......blew up" stories. Would be nice if we share our experiences based mostly on actual experience rather than the "excessive literary exaggeration" that comes with the "My neighbors........" stories.
YMMV

I don't have any stories like that because my neighbors never have any problems with their vehicles. Oh wait they all drive Fords.
