Manual indicates that suction screen should be cleaned w/ a mild solvent. I have carburetor cleaner (gallon can w/ bucket in it). Can I clean the screen in this or would it be too aggressive?

I just use some gasoline / kerosene. Easier on skin & lungs!~!! Used paint brush to get the steel filings out of screen.

Good luck!!!

You don't really need an aggressive solvent for the job. Just something to clean the hyd fluid from the metal filing's to get them loose from the mesh screen. I used some lo-volatil part's cleaner and parts brush for most of the cleaning but an old toothbrush for the last of the really fine metallic stuff.

That was the final step before re-installing. My compressor is set for 175psi. So, I was pretty careful not to damage the screen and/or the screen seam at each end of the tube.

Ended up using kerosine & a gun cleaning nylon brush. Blew out w/ air compressor to dry. Expected to find sludge on the screen, but jiust some minor metal chips, so kerosene worked good.
