Things I do and don't like about my F-150

Nice review!

A few points about your "dislikes"

Rear vents - you would need to step up to FX4 or Lariat plus models to get rear vents in the center console pod for the rear seats

Stereo- Was an option on my '06 FX4 crew to get "Audiophile" stereo with subwoofer

May have been an option on your XLT don't know! If you would have custom built and ordered.

The big 3 have gone the way of the imports in this way that you get options ABC with base package, options ABC+DEF and options for more $$ to customize with mid grade and A-Z with top package.

Just my observations/experience

Ford is not as bad as the imports but you are right in that it is getting hard to equip a vehicle the way the way customer wants. Want a chrome bumper that may very well be one item in a $5000 option package.

Thanks for the review. Been thinking about a truck but I have sticker shock right now.

That's certainly true...Mine was a bizzare optioned truck that someone ordered for some specific purpose and didn't end up buying...Had what I wanted and many things that I didn't but overall I'm happy...The stereo isn't the greatest, but the leather interior that I didn't really want is kind of an echo chamber which doesn't help...

I should scan my sticker sometime so that someone can tell me what the intent of this thing was....Maybe a snowbird tow vehicle..Who knows?

i was at a local GMC dealer yesterday picking up a new interior door handle for my 95 sierra. as most people do, i took a quick look at some new 4x4 2500hd trucks displayed on the lot. all of them were crew cab models with a short box. the cheapest was 58k and the most expensive was 64 and all of them had the 6.2L gas engine. so a new top of the line GMC diesel pickup is now 65,000 to 70,000 dollars? good luck with that...

a good friend of mine wanted me to buy his 3 bedroom 2 bath house in palmdale, ca in the late 70s; he wanted $25,500 for it. it was a nice house, but i didn't live in california and wanted to go back to college. fast forward 35 years and a stinking pickup truck now retails for more than twice what that house cost. another reference point is that an equivalent truck in 1978 cost about $6500.

Yea, but what would that $25,500 house be worth today? My guess us $400,000 plus.

When you say equivalent truck in 1978, you mean what? It had 4 tires, a windshield, brakes and a go pedal. Maybe the torque and HP to dollar comparison would make you feel better or the percent chance of surviving a crash to dollar comparison. Lol.

In some cases, not saying yours, the house purchase would have been more financially beneficial in the end vs the additional pay from a college education.

Somewhat sad to see our dollar value slipping away so quickly.

i mean it was a pickup truck of equivalent specification: crew cab, 4x4, top of the line equipment. it had a 350 small block that gloried in the brutal 165 hp that was produced. i fully agree that the trucks these days are much better than the 1978 model year. but is the truck an order of magnitude better in performance and comfort the way it is in price?

that is exactly my point, but i would strike "somewhat" and replace it with "very".
