BBs do bounce back. I have some .22 rifle spinner targets that my grandson shoots with BBs. The BBs don't make the spinners go around and often they come bouncing back right off the spinner. Yikes!

Yeah, I got hit in the safety glasses by one. Guess that's why in the instructions they say to wear them...:D

When I was a kid my friends and I decided that playing war with bb guns would be fun. Stupid. I got hit in the finger, hurt like **** and that was the end of that game.

Remember having those BB gun wars also . We played smart by placing a rule, no aiming for the head.:confused2:

Yea. How did we ever make it to this age without wearing helmets for everything and being coddled our whole lives. Bottle rocket wars were common on fourth of July. Fire crackers in slingshots.

I will never argue with safety...

That said, I think we are doing a real disservice to the next generation.

Some of my best childhood memories are now illegal... riding to the game in the back of coach's pick-up or taking a road trip with my high school buddy to visit his uncle in Vancouver Canada at age 16... 2,000 mile roadtrip in a Mustang Convert over Easter break.

It was character building.

It's not like today's kids don't all have cell phones and can be in touch at a moments notice.

Friends of mine actually buy their kids new cars because they are safer... or go with them off to college to get them settled...

No wonder it is now law kids can be on their parents health insurance to age 25.

At Scout camp one of the attractions was the Range... 13 year olds working on a marksmanship merit badge... can't even imagine the uproar if the powers that be got wind of something like this.

Shot myself with a BB gun when I was 12. To this day, still don't know exactly why it happened. I had a pump up gun, you know the kind - the more pumps the harder it would shoot. I had pumped this one probably a few too many pumps, went to shoot it, nothing. Trigger depressed, but no shot, no sounds at all. Tried to pump it again, but it was max'd out.

With no other ideas to try, i thought i would add some bb's and perhaps shake it or something. My gun was broke and i was going to try everything. The feed hole to pour in bb's was at the end of the barrel, near the muzzle. To open the hole cover, you rotated a ring which looked like a winchoke. Not realizing it, when I rotated the ring, my left pointing finger was directly over the muzzle. As soon as the feed hole was uncovered, the gun discharged and the bb hit my finger at max velocity. Holy $$$$!!!

It didn't penetrate the skin, but it sure felt like it had blown my finger clean off. It turned all shades of purple and blue. That gun got tossed into a corner and I don't ever remember shooting that one again.

I have been shot hundreds of times with a Daisy Red Rider BB gun by my older brother. He was a real tormenter as we were growing up. I ended up sending him to the hospital to get a couple of BB cut out. A crossman 760 pump was a potent BB/pellet gun. He never shot me after that.

About 11 or 8 years ago early evening I was returning from putting out some trash when there as a whssssssss right past my left ear and a 'smack' as a spent 22 hit the side of my house. Seems that my neighbour had shot at a rabbit from 150 yards away. The bullet must have ricocheted from the ground and through a line of trees (mostly pine)on the boundary. There was no way he could have seen me. I am known among his friends as the bloke Graeme nearly shot.

He has never fired a rifle since.
