I purchased an used Winco 5300 PTO generator the other day. But it has a 3/4" square shaft. Is there a conversion part which will allow it to join to the rear PTO or do I need to replace it at the u-joint?

Also, I noticed that it says 3600 rpm. Will that convert due to the shaft on the tractor being larger?

Thanks

Don

The 3600 rpm is usually converted from 540 PTO rpm by the gearbox/transmission.

Without photos, it sound as if you will need to convert at the cross/U-joint with the implement end of the pto shaft.

My negative thinking is that your generator needs 3600 rpm to provide the 110/220V outputs. I have a Winco 25Kw PTO generator and that label says 540 rpm. That may be why the 3/4 shaft so you won't try to use tractor pto to drive it. I have been wrong before and will be again soon! Hope things work out for you.

In full agreement. The gearbox is attached to the genny and steps up the RPM from 540 at the tractor pto output to 3600 the genny needs.

Are you sure it's a 540 pto generator? Just because it has a pto shaft doesn't mean its for a 540pto like tractors have. Sounds like it was made for a front pto or it's just the way someone hooked it to a motor.

post a pic.

heads are commonly needing 1800 rpom or 3600 rpm.. depends on # of poles.

pto gensets are coupled with gearboxes to step up the tractor pto to the heads needs.

post a pic of what you go for more info

Thanks for the responses.

Note: The tag says:

5300 Watts
115/230
23 Amps
3600 RPM
1 Phase

You'll also note that it's a 3 point hitch setup, which I assumed was for a real 540 PTO.

What I see is you only have 1/2 of the pto shaft. Eather it's old or someone made it from a engine mount generator. Get the other 1/2 of the pto shaft and see if the generator works.

From the last picture it also appears that the 3600 rpm is generated by the drive pulley being bigger than the driven one. W/o out knowing the exact size of both pulleys, can not really say what the pto input rpm sb but looks like the unit was designed to run off the 540 rpm. Because of the 3 point mounting frame .
