Hello, I tried to search this with no luck. I hope someone can answer this for me. As I was installing my new rings on the pistons. It is a 5 ring piston by the way, I noticed that the 4th ring from the top (oil ring) is different from the ones on the old pistons. The new one is not a solid cast ring but a squigily one with a thin ring on top and bottom of it. Kinda what you would see on a small block chevy. But the kit was listed 5th 4th 3rd and so on. All the other rings are the same except the 4th ring. Has anyone seen this before?

That's a oil control ring.

Right, the direct injection AD3. engines had the dished piston top.

Unfortunately I am just now finding out more about one of my AD3.152's pistons than I ever expected to know. It drew at least part of #1 liner into the crankcase. Made kind of a mess. Part of the liner ended up being crunched (pulverized) at the head.

Thanks, The Manual I have says its a spring loaded laminated scraper ring. Thats fine, but I need to find out if this "new ring" can be used to replace the original. This whole rebuild is due to piston failure after a rebuild. I will try to post a pic of the old and new tomorrow and see what you all think. I bought this project due to excessive oil consumption. Turns out the lands between the rings were all busted up. I just want to be sure that this scraper ring is correct.
