A Quote from the above 2000 reference:
"On average, Ornishç´ patients lost 24 lbs in a year and had a37% reduction in LDL cholesterol levels (HDL cholesterol lev-els were unchanged). What is most provocative about this diet/lifestyle program is that there was a 91% reduction in angina fre-quency and a significant degree of angiographically measuredcoronary stenosis regression. It is unclear to what degree otherlifestyle modifications such as exercise and stress reduction, whichare integral parts of the Ornish program, play in these results.Based upon these favorable findings, the National Institutes ofHealth is embarking upon a multimillion-dollar study of theOrnish diet vs bypass surgery in patients with coronary disease. "
It has been 13 years, I wonder if the results are out on the multimillion-dollar study by the National Institutes of Health.
I do know the information in the article about fish oil (now having no effect) has been modified after a large and long study.
I agree we should expect results from a larger Ornish diet study soon. It takes 2-3 years to organize such a large NIH study then ten or so years to collect data and follow up then a couple of years to analyze and write it up so it still may be another couple of years.
